Job summary

The Jonus Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their insurance accounting team, supporting financial reporting, reinsurance accounting, reconciliations, and regulatory compliance in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This role emphasizes accuracy and integrity of financial data while working with internal stakeholders and external reporting requirements, with a hybrid schedule in Chicago.

Eligible candidates have a Bachelor's in Accounting, 5 years of experience, Advanced Excel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • CPA designation preferred, but not required.
  • 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Insurance industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP requiredExposure to Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Experience with accounting software and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of accounting controls and financial reporting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly reinsurance reports for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Analyze, reconcile, and maintain general ledger accounts.
  • Review financial results and investigate fluctuations, trends, and variances.
  • Develop and prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses.
  • Maintain and update reinsurance structures for new and renewal business.
  • Process reinsurance premium transactions and excess loss activity.
  • Review and validate reinsurer certificates against account data.
  • Assist with quarterly management reporting and financial analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SAP, and company policies.
  • Support tax-related reporting requirements and maintain awareness of applicable regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and maintain documentation of procedures.
  • Utilize accounting systems, reporting tools, and advanced Excel functions to support financial operations.
  • Monitor reporting deadlines and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Provide exceptional service and support to both internal and external business partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Serve as a backup approver for audits, structure changes, and account updates when needed.

Senior Accountant

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $75,000 - $100,000 (commensurate with experience)

Work Arrangement

Hybrid Schedule: 3 days per week in the office
