Job summary

Northfield Savings Bank is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team. This advanced role acts as a technical resource and mentor within the accounting group, leading complex functions, coordinating audits, and driving process improvements with strong internal controls.

You’ll serve as a subject matter expert, provide guidance to teammates, and collaborate with management to strengthen financial operations in support of organizational objectives.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or four years of related experience.
• Experience in an accounting department within a financial institution preferred.
• Experience with audits and risk management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior accounting resource, providing technical guidance, cross-functional support, and mentorship.
• Act as SME for specialized activities including investments, pledged assets, and IntraFi products.
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, internal controls, and records management.
• Administer domestic and international wire transfers and train staff.
• Lead investigation and resolution of accounting discrepancies and control exceptions.
• Identify and lead process improvements to strengthen controls and efficiency.

Senior Accountant

Northfield Savings Bank is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team. This is an advanced level position that serves as a technical resource and mentor within the accounting team. This role leads complex accounting functions, audit coordination, and process improvement initiatives while ensuring strong internal controls and compliance with regulatory and organizational policies.

The Senior Accountant serves as a subject matter expert, provides guidance and technical support to team members, and collaborates with management and other departments to strengthen financial operations and support organizational objectives and improvements.

Job Responsibilities

Serve as a senior accounting resource, providing technical guidance, cross-functional support, and mentorship while promoting consistent accounting practices and operational continuity.

Serve as the subject matter expert for specialized accounting activities, including investments, pledged assets, IntraFi products, and other financial activities

Support compliance with accounting principles, regulatory requirements, internal controls, and records management practices to mitigate risk, maintain financial integrity, and support audit readiness.

Administer domestic and international wire transfer activities in accordance with fraud prevention, risk management, regulatory, and internal control requirements, and lead related staff training.

Lead the investigation and resolution of accounting discrepancies, operational issues, and control exceptions, collaborating with internal and external partners as appropriate.

Identify and help lead process improvements that enhance accounting operations, strengthen internal controls, improve efficiency, and support regulatory compliance.

Requirements

Compensation

Base compensation range at hire (dependent on experience): $27.50-31.00 per hour
