Job summary

State of Texas seeks an Assistant Attorney General to join the General Litigation Division in Austin. The role focuses on constitutional and civil rights litigation, employment matters, and public policy issues affecting Texans.

You will work on individual claims and complex institutional reform projects within a dynamic, team-oriented setting. Qualified candidates are licensed in Texas with a JD and experience in civil litigation.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (J.D.).
• Two years of full-time civil litigation experience.
• Licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• Knowledge of laws and legal principles relevant to the General Litigation Division.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to receive and respond to constructive feedback.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a professional office environment.
• In-person work requirement at the assigned OAG location (travel up to 5%).
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute and defend a broad range of civil matters for the General Litigation Division.
• Work on constitutional and civil rights, employment, and public policy litigation.
• Assist on larger teams handling complex and high-stakes matters.
• Maintain a dynamic docket and provide quality legal work and client service.
• Travel as required up to 5% and ensure timely, accurate collaboration with colleagues.
