Job summary

TEN (Transportation Equipment Network) is seeking a Trailer Technician / Trailer Mechanic in Indiana to diagnose, maintain, and repair diverse trailers, ensuring DOT and safety compliance. You will troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural systems across a large fleet and document work performed.

Qualified candidates bring hands-on trailer repair experience, knowledge of brake/suspension systems, welding, and the ability to use diagnostic equipment.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Trailer Technician or Trailer Mechanic or similar role.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on trailer repair experience.
  • Knowledge of brake, suspension, hydraulics, electrical systems and DOT requirements.
  • Ability to use shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding/fabrication tools.
  • Ability to lift, move, and work with heavy equipment and trailer components.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Position: Trailer Technician / Trailer Mechanic

The Trailer Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repair on a wide range of trailers, including dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, cargo trailers, and utility trailers. This role requires experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structural systems while ensuring all equipment meets DOT and safety compliance standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and structural issues on trailers
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and routine trailer servicing
  • Repair or replace brake systems, suspensions, axles, landing gear, and wheel‑end components
  • Troubleshoot and repair lighting systems, wiring, and electrical components
  • Complete frame, body, and structural repairs , including welding and fabrication
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all work meets regulatory and company standards
  • Use diagnostic tools, equipment, and repair manuals to identify issues
  • Document all repairs and maintain accurate work orders in the maintenance system
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding repair needs
Required Qualifications
  • Experience as a Trailer Technician, Trailer Mechanic, Diesel Technician, Fleet Technician , or similar role
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands‑on experience in trailer repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge of brake systems, suspension systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and DOT requirements
  • Ability to use shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding/fabrication tools
  • Ability to lift, move, and work with heavy equipment and trailer components
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to a safe work environment and regulatory compliance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Previous experience in the transportation, trucking, or fleet maintenance industry strongly preferred
  • Experience working with multiple trailer types (dry van, flatbed, reefer, utility, etc.) strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced shop environment
