Job summary

SEMCO Energy Gas Company is seeking a Senior Advisor, Incident & Emergency Management to lead and strengthen the emergency management program across our natural gas utility operations. You will serve as the SME for emergency preparedness, incident response, and resilience, partnering with leaders across operations, safety, regulatory functions to ensure readiness and effective recovery from emergencies.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in emergency management or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting emergency response operations, exercises, and resilience initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of ICS, EOC operations, and crisis management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and continuous improvement of the Incident & Emergency Management Program.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, playbooks, and readiness tools.
  • Coordinate preparedness initiatives, risk assessments, and resilience planning.
  • Design and facilitate exercises, tabletop simulations, and drills.
  • Lead after-action reviews and drive corrective actions.
  • Build relationships with agencies, regulators, and partners.
  • Provide leadership briefings and strategic preparedness recommendations.

Job Description SEMCO - Senior Advisor, Incident & Emergency Management

At SEMCO Energy Gas Company, safety, reliability, and preparedness are foundational to how we serve our customers and communities. We are seeking an experienced Sr. Advisor, Incident & Emergency Management to lead and continuously strengthen our emergency management program across our natural gas utility operations. In this highly visible role, you will serve as the organization's subject matter expert for emergency preparedness, incident management, crisis response, and operational resilience. You will partner closely with leaders across operations, engineering, safety, security, environmental, public affairs, and regulatory functions to ensure SEMCO is prepared to effectively respond to and recover from emergencies, operational disruptions, severe weather events, and other critical incidents. What You'll Do
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SEMCO's Incident & Emergency Management Program
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, procedures, playbooks, and readiness tools that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Support emergency response activities, including Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations, Incident Command System (ICS) operations, severe weather events, infrastructure disruptions, and crisis situations
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness initiatives, risk assessments, resilience planning, and operational readiness activities across the utility
  • Design and facilitate emergency exercises, training programs, tabletop simulations, and drills to strengthen organizational preparedness
  • Lead after-action reviews and corrective action processes to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with emergency management agencies, regulators, public safety organizations, industry partners, and community stakeholders
  • Provide leadership briefings, preparedness reporting, and strategic recommendations to support operational and executive decision-making
What You'll Bring
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in emergency management, utility operations, public safety, crisis management, business continuity, security, or a related discipline
  • Experience supporting emergency response operations, preparedness programs, incident investigations, exercises, and operational resilience initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS), Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), emergency response principles, and crisis management practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders during complex or high-pressure situations
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, relationship-building, and project management skills
  • Utility, energy, critical infrastructure, or industrial operations experience is strongly preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CEM, FEMA Professional Development Series, Business Continuity certifications, or advanced IC S training are considered assets
  • Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Continuity, or a related field
