Job summary

SEMCO Energy Gas Company is seeking a Senior Advisor, Incident & Emergency Management to lead and strengthen our emergency management program across utility operations. You will serve as the SME for preparedness, incident response, and resilience, partnering with leaders across operations, safety, regulatory and public affairs.

This role drives exercises, after-action reviews, and readiness tools, reports to executives, and helps safeguard employees, customers and critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in emergency management or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of ICS, EOC, and crisis management.
  • Lead cross-functional teams with strong communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the incident & emergency program.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness initiatives across the utility.
  • Design and facilitate exercises, drills, and tabletop simulations.
  • Lead after-action reviews and corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership briefings and strategic recommendations to executives.

Job DescriptionSEMCO - Senior Advisor, Incident & Emergency ManagementAt SEMCO Energy Gas Company, safety, reliability, and preparedness are foundational to how we serve our customers and communities. We are seeking an experienced Sr. Advisor, Incident & Emergency Management to lead and continuously strengthen our emergency management program across our natural gas utility operations. In this highly visible role, you will serve as the organization's subject matter expert for emergency preparedness, incident management, crisis response, and operational resilience. You will partner closely with leaders across operations, engineering, safety, security, environmental, public affairs, and regulatory functions to ensure SEMCO is prepared to effectively respond to and recover from emergencies, operational disruptions, severe weather events, and other critical incidents. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping protect our employees, customers, communities, and critical infrastructure.What You'll DoLead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SEMCO's Incident & Emergency Management ProgramDevelop and maintain emergency response plans, procedures, playbooks, and readiness tools that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practicesSupport emergency response activities, including Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations, Incident Command System (ICS) operations, severe weather events, infrastructure disruptions, and crisis situationsCoordinate emergency preparedness initiatives, risk assessments, resilience planning, and operational readiness activities across the utilityDesign and facilitate emergency exercises, training programs, tabletop simulations, and drills to strengthen organizational preparednessLead after-action reviews and corrective action processes to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvementBuild and maintain strong relationships with emergency management agencies, regulators, public safety organizations, industry partners, and community stakeholdersProvide leadership briefings, preparedness reporting, and strategic recommendations to support operational and executive decision-makingWhat You'll Bring8+ years of progressive experience in emergency management, utility operations, public safety, crisis management, business continuity, security, or a related disciplineExperience supporting emergency response operations, preparedness programs, incident investigations, exercises, and operational resilience initiativesStrong knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS), Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), emergency response principles, and crisis management practicesDemonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders during complex or high-pressure situationsExcellent communication, facilitation, relationship-building, and project management skillsUtility, energy, critical infrastructure, or industrial operations experience is strongly preferredProfessional certifications such as CEM, FEMA Professional Development Series, Business Continuity certifications, or advanced ICS training are considered assetsBachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Continuity, or a related fieldWhy JoinPlay a key role in strengthening the resilience of a natural gas utility that serves thousands of customers every dayPartner with operational leaders, regulators, emergency responders, and executive leadership to shape preparedness and response strategiesDrive emergency management initiatives, exercises, and continuous improvement efforts that directly influence safety, operational readiness, and business resilienceWe offer a competitive salary range of $99,500 to $144,425 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills.
