Job summary

Salem Elementary School is seeking a Special Education Teacher for self-contained classrooms in the Spotsylvania County Public Schools system, Fredericksburg, VA. The role involves developing and implementing instructional programs tailored to students with diverse needs, and maintaining IEPs in compliance with state and federal requirements.

Essential duties include collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, parent conferences, and adherence to the Special Education Handbook.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
• An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provides specialized instruction, with specific educational planning, for students whose needs cannot be met within the general classroom.
• Develops, implements, and annually reviews student IEPs according to procedures; maintains records of student performance and IEP progress.
• Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements for the division’s special education program.
• Serves on an interdisciplinary team to provide appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities.
• Holds periodic parent conferences and/or home visits.
• Complies with all special education procedures from the division-wide Special Education Handbook and Virginia State Regulations.
