Job summary

Clayco SEI is seeking a Project Engineer - Electrical Systems to support its Electrical Self-Perform group on mission-critical and industrial projects. Based on a construction site, you will assist the Engineer - Electrical Systems and Project Manager, track procurement and materials, and help document and report project activity.

You will build large, complex electrical scopes ranging from $5 million to over $100 million, with a clear growth path toward project engineering and management

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, preferred.
• 0 to 5 years of experience in electrical construction or project engineering, ideally design-build.
• Working knowledge of NEC and applicable electrical codes preferred.
• Ability to walk a job site, climb ladders, and scale multi-floor scaffolding.
• Ability to lift objects of at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Support coordination of electrical scopes including MV/LV distribution, equipment, portable power, wiring, skids, and E-Houses.
• Build relationships with electrical subcontractors, equipment vendors, and design partners.
• Team with engineers to create and manage a design schedule.
• Assist in establishing project forecasts and budgets for electrical scopes.
• Assist in reporting of electrical scope status and cost.
• Review purchase orders and negotiate terms for electrical equipment and material changes.
• Receive and evaluate subcontractor/vendor quotes for electrical change requests.
• Maintain equipment and material tracking for electrical equipment.
• Expedite deliveries of long-lead electrical equipment to meet schedule.
• Support FAT and inspections for major electrical equipment.
• Support contract management for electrical installation subcontractors.
• Assist with punch list tracking and safety observations on electrical scopes.
• Prepare RFIs and submittals for electrical systems.
• Document meeting minutes for electrical scope coordination meetings.
• Manage drawings, project closeouts, and turnovers for electrical scopes.
• Observe field activities to aid schedule tracking on electrical work.
• Facilitate productivity reporting for self-performed electrical trades.

The Role We Want You For

The Project Engineer - Electrical Systems supports SEI's Electrical Self-Perform group in executing electrical scopes on mission-critical, industrial, and advanced manufacturing projects. Based on a construction project site, this person provides technical support to the Engineer - Electrical Systems and Project Manager, tracks procurement and materials, and helps document and report project activity. You will have the opportunity to build large, complicated, iconic electrical scopes ranging from $5 million to over $100 million, with a clear growth path toward project engineering and management leadership within SEI.

The Specifics of the Role

• Support coordination of electrical scopes including Medium-Voltage and Low-Voltage distribution, electrical equipment, temporary power systems, low-voltage power and controls wiring, electrical skids, and E-Houses.
• Build relationships with electrical subcontractors, equipment vendors, and design partners.
• Team with electrical engineers and designers to help create and manage a design schedule.
• Assist in establishing project forecasts and budgets for electrical scopes.
• Assist in the reporting of electrical scope status and cost.
• Review purchase orders and support negotiation of terms for electrical equipment and material changes.
• Receive, examine, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes for electrical change requests.
• Set up and maintain equipment status tracking and material tracking for electrical equipment.
• Expedite deliveries of long-lead electrical equipment to meet schedule.
• Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and inspections for major electrical equipment.
• Support contract management for electrical installation subcontractors.
• Assist superintendents with punch list tracking, capturing safety observations, and taking progress photos while walking electrical scopes of the job.
• Assist with site logistics preparation and maintenance for electrical equipment and material laydown.
• Prepare, monitor, and distribute RFIs and submittals related to electrical systems.
• Document meeting minutes for electrical scope coordination meetings.
• Manage drawings, project closeouts, and turnovers for electrical scopes.
• Observe field activities to assist with schedule tracking on electrical work.
• Facilitate productivity reporting for self-performed electrical trades and owner billings.
• Mentor and develop interns and incoming electrical project engineering staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, preferred.
• 0 to 5 years of experience in electrical construction or project engineering, ideally design-build.
• Working knowledge of NEC and applicable electrical codes preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction principles, practices, and technology.
• Ability to walk a job site, climb ladders, and scale multi-floor scaffolding.
• Ability to lift objects of at least 50 lbs.
