Job summary

General Assembly Remote Jobs is looking for a full-time Software Engineering Immersive teacher to guide students in their transformation into software developers. You will teach effectively and collaboratively within a dynamic classroom environment, fostering a positive learning experience.

The role requires at least 2 years of software development experience with knowledge in both front-end and back-end technologies. Compensation is anticipated between $23,000–$27,000 based on experience and location.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience on a software development team.
  • Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals: recursion, sorting, searching, etc.
  • Experience in front-end and back-end development, fluent in HTML, CSS, and at least one JS framework.
  • Proficiency with SQL databases (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
  • Knowledge of an additional object-oriented language (Python preferred).
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree or at least 10 years of applicable experience.
  • At least 2 years of practical software development experience within the last five years.
  • Good moral character and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Language, mathematical, reasoning, and computer skills assuring teaching effectiveness.

Job description

Join our full‑time Software Engineering Immersive program as a teacher and help students transform into skilled software developers.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach and facilitate in‑class instruction Monday‑Friday, approximately 8 hrs per day, for the 10‑14 week program.
  • Commit a few hours per week preparing lessons and materials using existing GA curriculum.
  • Collaborate with co‑instructors or teaching assistants to deliver timely feedback on student progress.
  • Work alongside GA staff to meet the diverse learning styles of students.
  • Guide students through a final project that showcases their abilities to hiring managers.
  • Facilitate a dynamic, collaborative and positive classroom community.
  • Inspire students to persevere through the challenges of learning a new skill set.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience on a software development team.
  • Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals: recursion, sorting, searching, linked lists, stacks, queues, sets, trees, tries, graphs, hash tables, and design patterns.
  • Experience in both front‑end and back‑end development, fluent in HTML and CSS and at least one JS MV* framework (Angular, Backbone, or React preferred).
  • Proficiency with SQL databases (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
  • Knowledge of an additional object‑oriented language (Python preferred).
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree or at least 10 years of applicable experience.
  • At least 2 years of practical software development experience within the last five years; 3 years is preferred.
  • Good moral character and strong decision‑making abilities.
  • Language, mathematical, reasoning, and computer skills that assure teaching effectiveness.
Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated compensation for the full duration of the program in the US market is $23,000–$27,000, adjusted for experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

US temporary full‑time or part‑time positions may include eligibility for dental and vision coverage, paid time off, and holiday pay.

Licensure and Eligibility

General Assembly is a regulated higher‑education provider. Some states require instructors to be licensed. During onboarding you will be required to obtain the necessary state licenses. Licensure requirements vary by state; we will provide guidance and cover all licensing fees.
