Job summary

The University of Miami is seeking a Security Systems Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair security systems, hardware, and peripherals across university premises. You will evaluate existing systems, assist with upgrades, and ensure equipment conforms to standards.

Responsibilities include configuring video surveillance with IndigoVision and Genetec Omnicast, supporting Genetec Synergis and Honeywell Pro-Watch access control, and maintaining intrusion detection components

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

To learn how to apply for a faculty or staff position, please review this tip sheet .Core Job Summary:The Security Systems Technician installs, maintains, services, troubleshoots, and repairs security systems, hardware, and peripherals to ensure that assigned premises are safe and secure at all times. Additionally, the Security Systems Technician evaluates present systems and recommends system expansion, modification, and replacement.Core Responsibilities:Communicates with management, Project Managers, vendors, and contractors to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Corrects malfunctions to restore the conformance of equipment to established standards.Maintains records of equipment installed and assists in stocking service parts.Performs physical inventories of security systems equipment.Cleans security systems, equipment and work areas.Conducts research and analyzes test measurements and other data.Reads and makes inferences from blueprints, equipment specifications, schematic drawings, and technical instructions.Tests backup batteries, keypad programming and other security features to ensure proper functioning.Consults with senior managing staff to assess risks and to determine security requirements.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Department Specific FunctionsReports directly to the Security Technology Operations Supervisor and supports daily operations, maintenance, and assigned projects related to enterprise security systems.Installs, configures, and maintains video surveillance systems, including IndigoVision and Genetec Omnicast, ensuring proper camera functionality and system performance.Supports access control systems such as Genetec Synergis and Honeywell Pro-Watch, including basic controller setup, reader installation, and troubleshooting access issues.Installs and services electronic locking systems, including Onity electronic locks and Allegion NDE and LE locks, ensuring proper operation and credential functionality.Assists with installation, programming, and maintenance of intrusion detection systems, including DSC alarm systems and Innovonics wireless sensors.Troubleshoots and repairs security system components such as cameras, card readers, access panels, locks, and associated hardware under supervision or established procedures.Performs routine maintenance tasks, firmware updates, and system checks to ensure continued system reliability.Assists in system upgrades and new installations, including hardware setup, basic configuration, and testing.Responds to service requests and resolves standard issues related to access control, video systems, and alarms in a timely manner.Maintains accurate service records, documentation, and updates within ticketing or asset management systems.Collaborates with team members, IT staff, and vendors to support system functionality and connectivity.Provides basic user support and guidance on security system usage.Performs other duties as assigned.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.Core Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalentMinimum 1 year of relevant experienceKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.Commitment to the University’s core values.Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).Ability to operate a motor vehicleValid State of Florida driver’s licenseAny relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.The University of Miami offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition remission and more.UHealth-University of Miami Health System, South Florida's only university-based health system, provides leading-edge patient care powered by the ground breaking research and medical education at the Miller School of Medicine.
