The TxDOT Support Services Division is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Security Systems Administrator position. This position provides administrative support for security programs, manages and maintains SharePoint resources, coordinates and tracks training for security personnel, supports project managers with operational activities, assists by coordinating work-orders with technical support staff, and serves as a key point of contact for dispatch operations. The ideal candidate is organized and skilled at managing multiple priorities while delivering exceptional support to stakeholders.

Performs routine systems administration work in support of TxDOT District/Division information technology systems. Work involves the testing, configuration, and maintaining the reliable operation of systems. Troubleshoots, installs, and upgrades hardware and software systems. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

  • Analyzes user requirements and makes recommendations on software and the efficient use of information systems.
  • Installs, maintains, moves IT systems, and assists in testing and upgrading new and existing hardware and software.
  • Reviews and provides recommendations regarding the procurement of information technology equipment and software for the department/division.
  • Tests and diagnoses systems to ensure critical requirements are met.
  • Monitors and collects information to determine the strength, weaknesses and performance issues of existing technology.
  • Installs, maintains, and performs minor repairs to hardware, software, or information resources equipment.
  • Prepares briefings, reports, and evaluations on systems efficiency and utilization.
  • Prepares and maintains operating procedures for technical support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and systems administration techniques.
  • Provides technical assistance and support for applications/hardware problems.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves software and hardware systems related problems.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Experience

1 year of experience in systems administration, systems analysis, application systems support, or related work experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred experience in Microsoft programs, office management, work-order dispatch, monitoring center operations and administrative support.

Considerable knowledge of
  • IT/IS software and hardware development methodologies and standards
  • Concepts, techniques and tools used in planning, designing and implementing database management systems and related technologies
  • Applicable computer programming techniques and languages
  • Applicable computer software applications and hardware
Proficient skill in
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with others
  • Scheduling, testing, installing,and implementing computer programs/systems
  • Troubleshooting computer systems
  • Communicating technical information effectivelyUsing and supporting applicable computer systems

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
