Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Detection Engineer to design, tune, and maintain threat detection across enterprise environments, working with Threat Intelligence Analysts, Threat Hunters, IR, and SOC staff.

You will translate threat intel into actionable content, build and tune rules, and map coverage to MITRE ATT&CK while improving overall cyber resilience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or associates with qualifying IT/security experience.
• 7+ years IT-related experience or 5+ years security experience; security clearance at minimum Secret level may be required.
• Experience in detection engineering, SOC, threat hunting, and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy detections across SIEM, EDR, NDR, cloud, and other platforms.
• Translate threat intelligence into actionable detection content.
• Create and tune detection rules, correlation searches, and alerting.
• Map detections to MITRE ATT&CK and identify coverage gaps.
• Collaborate with Threat Hunting and Incident Response teams to improve detection.
• Automate detection engineering workflows where appropriate.

The Detection Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, tuning, and maintaining threat detection capabilities across enterprise environments. This role works closely with Threat Intelligence Analysts, Threat Hunters, Incident Responders, and Security Operations Center (SOC) personnel to identify emerging threats and improve the organization's ability to detect malicious activity.Job DescriptionThe ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), security monitoring technologies, and data analysis.
