Qualifications

  • No Class B misdemeanor conviction in the last ten years; clean criminal history.
  • Ability to pass TSA security training.
  • Must pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Must obtain a SIDA badge within thirty days and maintain qualification at renewal.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Completes daily field checks to ensure proper security operations and equipment function.
  • Communicates with Airport departments to resolve issues and maintain security.
  • Exerts command responsibility and prepares reports.

Job Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Airport Security Assistant Manager, ensures that Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) gates, terminal and roving security patrols, and other designated locations are always properly staffed with the correct number of security officers required per shift. Ensures that all security employees are properly trained and that employees adhere to posted procedures.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises security personnel at multiple locations; schedules employees for each shift to ensure that all field operations, including but not limited to security post buildings, terminal and roving patrols are properly manned at all times with the correct number of security officers required; approves work schedule changes/exchanges and ensures changes/exchanges are kept to a minimum to prevent lost time and overtime. Trains all shift employees in accordance with the established standard operating procedures; ensures procedures are properly posted and employees adhere to posted procedures; recommends changes and updates to standard operating procedures and training. Ensures compliance with Board and Department policies, state and federal regulations and the DFW Airport Security Plan (ASP). Ensures security employees maintain daily logs of events and that logs are correct, complete and legible; enters activity data into system. Selects, trains, counsels, disciplines and evaluates performance of staff; monitors employees’ daily time and attendance on shift; maintains attendance records and reviews and approves timesheets. Reviews reports and informs management of security violations and incidents; reviews, investigates and resolves customer complaints/issues in the field and over the telephone. Performs daily checks of field operations during shift to ensure all security employees are performing their duties in a proper manner and that all security equipment is in proper functioning order. Communicates daily with various Airport departments to resolve maintenance issues, customer complaints, incident reports, etc. Exercise command responsibility and accountability for the operations. Ensure day-to- day compliance with the division’s purpose, mission, responsibility and authority. Complete and maintain accurate records and prepare reports. Coordinate all maintenance requests to ensure proper security of the AOA and the welfare of ASD personnel. Any other assignments as directed by the Assistant Manager and Manager of the division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent. Four (4) years of security services or comparable experience. Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above. Has not been convicted of a Class “B” misdemeanor within the last ten years or any offense greater than a Class “B”. Ability to pass mandatory Transportation Security Administration (TSA) required security training. Must pass a criminal history background investigation. Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal. This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position. Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of security related issues. Ability to speak, read and write English proficiently. Ability to use a computer and associated programs. Ability to take various types of reports either by telephone or in person. Ability to receive and process information of a sensitive or confidential nature with discretion, tact and diplomacy. Ability to train and supervise employees. Ability to follow established procedures and ensure compliance. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports by telephone or in person. Ability to understand and adhere to the Airport Board’s safety, security and fire protection policies when performing assigned work on Airport property.

DESIRABLE

General college coursework. One (1) year of experience in a lead or supervisory position. Experience as a Security Officer with DFW Airport Department of Public Safety.

EFFORTS

Frequently works outside subject to all weather conditions. Occasionally climbs into, out of and searches under vehicles. Occasionally works in awkward positions such as kneeling, stooping or squatting. Occasionally uses near-visual acuity in inspecting vehicles and SIDA badges. Occasionally uses far-visual acuity in judging distance of moving vehicles. Exchanges information in person and over radio and telephone. Drives to locations on Airport property, including the Aircraft Operations Area.
