Job summary

University of Illinois Chicago's University Police department seeks a Security Sergeant for on-site security operations in Chicago, IL. The role oversees recruitment, training, and supervision of Security Officers, with duties including scheduling, reports, and enforcing policies.

The position offers benefits, a 40-hour work week, and shifts across days, evenings, and nights to cover 24/7 operation; four positions available, salary $30.59–$34.07 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Valid Illinois driver's license.
• No record of conviction of a felony, or of a crime involving moral turpitude.
• Valid State of Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
• Two years (24 months) of experience performing duties at or comparable to that performed at the Security Officer level.
• Illinois Residency is required within 180 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Interviews, select and train new Security Officers.
• Assign work assignments and schedules for Security officers.
• Assist in developing training curriculum.
• Implements, disciplines and enforces policies and procedures for Security Officers.
• Dispatch calls using radio; pages staff; prepares visitor and/or parking passes; controls personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering controlled areas.
• Interviews with witnesses, writes detailed narrative reports; maintains daily activity reports; records visitor’s names, confirms identity, issue passes, and escorts individuals within secured area. Unlocking gates and doors; may drive patrol car while making rounds.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

The Security Sergeant is responsible for the selection, training and supervision of Security Officers. They are also responsible for performance evaluations, planning reports, investigation reports and disciplines.
