Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all DUS and client policies, procedures, and work rules.
  • Coordinate security operations at the job site under the direction of the Security Captain and Lieutenant.
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed by the end of the shift and turned into the Captain.
  • Apply knowledge of access control and physical protection to deter trespassers, sabotage, vandalism, theft, fire, and accidents.
  • Write operational and administrative reports detailing incidents or events.
  • Ensure assigned equipment, vehicles, uniforms, and gear are properly worn and maintained.
  • Schedule personnel and coordinate staffing adjustments to meet manpower requirements.
  • Supervise on-the-job training of security personnel and ensure training requirements are met.
  • Maintain high performance standards and provide coaching, recognition, and discipline as needed.
  • Evaluate officer performance and feedback on reports and duties.
  • Assist with emergency response activities as requested.
  • Maintain composure in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Promote a respectful and professional workplace free of harassment.
  • Ensure safety programs are followed by all security staff.
  • Be available for back-up support as needed.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle in various settings and weather conditions.
  • May work weekends/evenings as required.
  • Willing to perform other duties as required.

Job description

Under the supervision of the Security Captain, Lieutenant or Staff Manager, the Security Sergeant provides first line supervision to the assigned security workforce at the assigned post. Ensures security services are delivered in compliance with the contract’s scope of work, company policies, post orders, and all applicable laws, regulations, and operational procedures. Performs administrative duties such as incident reports, assisting with personnel evaluations and recommending discipline and commendations.

The Security Sergeant is a working supervisor who is one of the primary security officers on duty at the main gate post. Duties may differ depending on job site, business necessities, and client requirements.

Work Schedule: Rotational 1x1

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of prior experience in military, law enforcement, corrections, or private security
  • Valid driver’s license
  • State Unarmed Security Officer License. Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment
  • Ability to lead with professionalism, respect and integrity at all times

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of security services and developing Security Post Orders in the private sector.
  • Advanced skills utilizing common office related computer programs plus ability to learn proprietary programs unique to client.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Comply with all DUS and client policies, procedures, and work rules.
  • Coordinate security operations at the job site under the direction of the Security Captain and Lieutenant.
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed by the end of the shift and turned into the Captain.
  • Apply knowledge of the techniques and practices involved in access control and the physical protection of property, facilities, documents, and material in order to protect against trespassers, sabotage, vandalism, theft, fire, accident, etc.
  • Write operational and administrative reports and provide a detailed and accurate accounting orally or in writing of all aspects of an incident or event.
  • Ensure that all assigned equipment, vehicles, uniforms, and gear are properly worn and maintained. Report any deficiencies or concerns to the Captain.
  • Schedule personnel and coordinate staffing adjustments to meet immediate and projected manpower requirements in accordance with DUS policies and procedures.
  • Supervise on the job training of assigned personnel, provide direct instruction to security officers, and ensure that client and DUS training program requirements are met.
  • Maintain established standards of officer performance by personal example. Supervise staff and provide coaching, recognition and discipline within approved empowerment range.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback to officers regarding their reports, daily duties and procedures in order to achieve optimum overall performance.
  • Assist with emergency response activities as requested by client and/or management.
  • Maintain composure and control in stressful situations and/or emergency situations.
  • Promote a respectful and professional workplace environment free of harassment, favoritism, and inappropriate behavior.
  • Ensure company and site-specific safety programs are followed by all security staff.
  • Be available to provide back up support for personnel on duty as needed.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle in a variety of settings and varying weather conditions.
  • May be required to respond to urgent matters on weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as required

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will be required to work in an office setting as well as confined workspaces such as a security guard post, security gate, or patrol vehicles. The majority of work is performed in an industrial setting with a variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee’s work requires routine walking, standing, sitting, bending, and carrying/lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. Candidate will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical.
