Job summary

NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities is seeking a dedicated Safety & Security Officer to patrol and inspect agency facilities and communities. You will observe safety issues, secure premises, and assist in investigations while enforcing local laws and responding to emergencies.

Position involves documenting activities, training, and occasional court appearances. Strong observation, teamwork, and ability to work independently are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• U.S. citizen and resident of New York State.
• Pass medical exam including agility test.
• Background investigation with fingerprinting may be required.
• Valid New York State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Patrols and inspects agency buildings, residences, and facilities in community settings.
• Observe irregularities and report to supervisor for corrective action.
• Ensure doors and pathways are secured and inspected.
• Conduct safety inspections of equipment and alarms for compliance.
• Interview individuals and collect information for investigations.
• Assist in investigations of abuse, neglect, or accidents and file reports.
• Enforce traffic and parking laws; issue tickets and warnings.
• Screen visitors, issue temporary permits, and guide visitors.
• Provide escort services as needed; transport personnel on-site.
• Conduct fire drills and evacuations; respond to emergencies including CPR if needed.
• Document daily logs and participate in court/testimony when required.
• May operate security cameras and related equipment; may testify in hearings.
