Job Title: Security Officer

Department: Security

White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature. The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 17,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats.

Position Purpose

Responsible for the safety and security of White Oak’s guests, staff, collection, and property.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  1. Enforce all company policies and procedures and report all violations to immediate supervisor.
  2. Act as a Dispatcher during emergency situations, and coordinate solutions; inform outside agencies of any unusual or suspicious situations on property.
  3. Generate necessary written reports regarding security-related incidents involving guests, associates, and/or the facility.
  4. Maintain a working knowledge of White Oak’s facilities, as well as special events on property, to advise guests and staff when possible.
  5. When assigned to gate duty, maintain communications with the rover and monitor the base station radio.
  6. Provide access control, monitor alarm systems, and coordinate emergency response/casualty control.
  7. Monitor CCTV of back gate and operate gate remotely, as required.
  8. Data entry for departmental logs and incident reports, monitor email, guest relations calendar, arrival/departure schedules, and utilize the internet to maintain updated information as needed.
  9. Monitor weather and traffic conditions and communicate severe warnings to all personnel.
  10. Act as a security rover, airport driver, and shuttle driver as needed.
  11. Ensure a safe and engaging experience for White Oak guests.
  12. Perform other duties required to provide a safe, clean, healthy, and enjoyable environment for guests.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  1. Must be dependable, trustworthy, reliable, and have a good moral character.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions, both written and verbal.
  3. Must always remain alert while on duty.
  4. Capable of making sound judgments.
  5. Ability to remain calm in an emergency/crisis.
  6. Ability to maintain control over your own emotions.
  7. Confident in own abilities to perform the duties required.
  8. Guest service orientation and drive.
  9. Highly responsible with a professional presentation.
  10. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  11. Reliable means of communication for emergencies (telephone).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Three years’ experience in Security, Law Enforcement or Military.
  2. Current First Responder and/or CPR & AED Certifications.
  3. Capable of deductive reasoning.
  4. Report writing experience.
  5. Advanced computer software skills, including Microsoft Excel.

Special Working Conditions

Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Must have a valid driver’s license. Shifts are twelve hours in length.
