Job summary

Rollins College is seeking a part-time Security Officer to support Campus Safety with 2nd and 3rd shifts. Duties include patrolling, responding to incidents, and assisting the campus community. The role requires a high school diploma, a Florida driver’s license, and safety certifications within 90 days.

Hours are approx. 15–25 per week with no benefits. Reports and records will be prepared and emergencies handled as needed.

Job description

Security Officer (Part-Time)
Work Schedule:

The Rollins College Campus Safety Office provides a 24‑hour response to calls for service, routine and directed patrol activities, parking enforcement, and preliminary investigation of most campus incidents. Available shifts include:

  • 2nd Shift - 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm
  • 3rd Shift - 11:00 pm to 7:00 am

Part‑time Security Officers work approximately 15–25 hours per week, for a total of less than 1,000 hours per year. Scheduled hours per week will depend on availability and operational needs.

Hourly Pay Rate:

The hourly rate is $18.50, and there are no benefits associated with these positions.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Advising, directing, and providing information to students, employees, and the public
  • Patrolling the campus on foot or motor vehicle to ensure the protection of all campus faculty, staff, students, and visitors, as well as securing all campus buildings, structures, and property (Areas include buildings, grounds, parking lot, adjacent streets, and off‑campus properties)
  • Responding to all accidents, crimes, and complaint calls occurring on campus property
  • Assisting motorists, students, employees, and visitors on campus, answering calls for assistance, escorting students and others as requested
  • Noting and taking preventative/corrective action on all hazards and areas of concern
  • Reviewing and responding to emails and phone calls promptly
  • Preparing and maintaining necessary campus security records and reports
  • Making preliminary investigative reports and collecting initial information for Campus Safety Incident Reports
  • Enforcing traffic and parking regulations
  • Providing safety security services for large gatherings and events on campus
  • Administering first aid as necessary and calling for emergency medical services
  • Assisting in the implementation of safety/security programs for faculty, staff, and students
  • Assisting in monitoring computerized security systems
  • Coordinating and working closely with local police and fire departments
  • Opening and closing facilities; monitoring and controlling access to building and restricted area
  • Monitoring alarm systems and responding when necessary
  • Inspecting buildings for security, fire, and other potential hazards
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of job‑related experience.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report (MVR) are required to drive College vehicles.
  • Possess and maintain CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Possess and maintain State of Florida Class D security license within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Ability to train, direct, and supervise the work of others.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern safety/police practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and abiding by all guidelines associated with the Clery Act and Title IX.
  • Strong service orientation with a demonstrated ability to effectively meet the needs of and work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and public.
  • Ability to use tact and good judgment in resolving work problems and dealing with the public, students, and staff.
  • Ability to work in demanding and stressful situations.
Working Environment:
  • Front‑facing customer service role on‑campus (inside and outside).
  • Work requires exposure to potentially dangerous situations and physical strain involving walking and standing for extended periods (must be able to run a short distance, walk a flight of stairs, lift up to 50 pounds), and exposure to the elements.
  • As a condition of employment in this position, the incumbent will be subject to call‑in outside of regular hours to respond to emergencies, including the preparation and maintenance of college facilities, grounds, systems and services during inclement weather crises.
