Job summary

Job Corps in San Jose is seeking a dedicated Security Officer to enforce safety policies and protect staff, students and Center property. The role involves transporting students, conducting security checks, and supporting visitors and staff in a busy campus environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid state driver’s license, CPR/FA certification, and be willing to obtain a bus driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Knowledge of crowd control techniques preferred.
• Possess a valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain a bus driver’s license.
• Must maintain CPR/FA Certification.
• Familiarity with problems of underprivileged, minority groups, especially youth.

Responsibilities

• Enforces all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
• Transports students in company vehicle.
• Performs building security and safety checks, while patrolling assigned areas.
• Aids and assists visitors, students, and staff while entering and exiting Center grounds.
• Maintains Student Accountability logs for students entering/exiting the center.
• Conducts approved searches and Safety & Health inspections as necessary.
• Receives complaints and makes appropriate preliminary investigations.
• Provides escort service as directed.
• Investigates vehicular accidents at center.
• Follows all DOL mandated protocols issuing visitor passes and temporary vehicle permits.
• Participates in the de-escalation process and supports zero tolerance for violence and drugs.
• Attends periodic job related training; may provide temporary coverage in student areas.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Enforces all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
• Transports students in company vehicle.
• Performs building security and safety checks, while patrolling assigned areas, remaining alert for disturbances, fires, safety hazards, traffic violators, suspicious acts and/or persons, and other unusual conditions.
• Aids and assists visitors, students, and staff while entering and exiting Center grounds.
• Maintains Student Accountability logs for students entering / exiting the center.
• Conducts approved searches and Safety & Health inspections of visitors, staff and students as necessary.
• Receives complaints and makes appropriate preliminary investigations.
• Provides escort service as directed.
• Investigates vehicular accidents at center.
• Follows all DOL mandated protocols issuing visitor passes and temporary vehicle permits.
• Participates in the de-escalation process as established at the center, including zero tolerance for violence and drugs.
• Attends periodic job related training as required.
• May provide temporary coverage in student occupied areas such as the dormitories and recreation areas.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent. Valid State Driver’s License.

Preferred: Three to six months’ experience in a security or work-related capacity, Class B License with passenger/air brake endorsement preferred.

Knowledge: Knowledge of crowd control techniques preferred. Knowledge of law enforcement procedures preferred. Possess a valid state driver’s license. Ability to obtain a bus driver’s license. Must maintain CPR/FA Certification. Familiarity with problems of underprivileged, minority groups, especially youth. Good writing skills. Excellent communication skills.
