Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent, plus one year of security-related work experience.
  • Ability to pass a background check and demonstrate strong customer service.
  • Valid Utah Driver's License to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required after hire; ongoing mandatory trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a security presence on Main Campus locations.
  • Patrol campus premises to deter crime and enhance safety for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Write reports of irregularities or incidents and document patrol activities.
  • Request police or other emergency services in emergencies such as fires, disturbances, or medical incidents.
  • Escort or drive a vehicle to patrol areas and transport individuals as needed.
  • Maintain professional demeanor during stressful situations and follow campus safety policies.

Job Summary

Provides security services for the University of Utah's Main Campuscommunity which include but are not limited to: locking buildings,unlocking buildings, patrolling campus, writing reports, assistingmotorists, documenting patrol activities, and covering stationaryposts. Responsibilities may include operating vehicles and includesprograms such as Avigilon, CCURE, Teams, and Microsoft Office. Job responsibilities are not exhaustive. The Department of PublicSafety at the University of Utah provides security for a variety ofcampus partners. This job may be needed to fill a specific postdepending on staffing. All individuals hired as Campus Securityemployees will need to have the availability and flexibility towork any and all security posts as requested by the division.Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah

Safety is a top priority for the University of Utah. The Chief Safety Officer (CSO) for the University is the Director of Public Safety and serves as chief of police services. The CSO is responsible for overseeing the University's Department of Public Safety, which includes the following operational divisions: University Police, Campus Security, Health Security, Emergency Management, Emergency Communications, and the central administrative Office of the CSO.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a security presence on Main Campus locations.

  • Monitor facilities in assigned areas of patrol with a walkthrough and physical presence.
  • Write reports of irregularities or incidents which may includebut are not limited to equipment or property damage, propped orunlocked doors, other campus safety concerns.
  • Request police or other emergency services in situations such asfire, disturbances, or medical emergencies.
  • Escort or drive motor vehicle to patrol assigned area and /ortransport individuals.
  • Required to provide vehicle boosts, and other motoristassistance services.
  • Unlock university buildings as required and secures universityproperty by locking buildings.
  • Maintain professional demeanor during stressfulsituations.
  • Adhere to University of Utah Department of Public Safety andgeneral University policies.
  • May work in inclement weather or extreme weatherconditions.
  • May be confined to a service vehicle for an entire shift.
  • Must be willing to maintain required training. All trainingwill be provided by the department.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma, GED or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and oneyear security experience or equivalency; successfully pass a background check; demonstrated communications skills; and a commitment to providing excellent customer service required. Avalid Utah Driver's License to be obtained within 6 months ofhire.

The incumbent will be required to obtain Crisis PreventionInstitute certification (CPI) after being hired. The incumbent will also be required to attend other mandatory trainings as determined or required by the Department of Public Safety.

Preferences
  • Preference may be given to individuals with 2 years of professionalsecurity experience.
  • Preference may be given to individuals with CPR/AED/First Aidcertifications.
  • Preference may be given to individuals who have experience withcomputer software such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook,CCure, Avigilon and RMS.
  • Preference may be given to individuals who are familiar with radiocommunications.

Work Schedule Summary: Shift schedules are typically five 8 hour shifts per work week on either the Day Shift, Swing Shift or Grave Shift. Days on shift depend on departmental needs. Must have availability to work weekends and some holidays.
