Job summary

Capstone Copper is seeking a Security Officer I in the Pinto Valley Mine area to uphold safety and security policies. You will greet visitors, monitor communications, and assist with incident reporting, access control, and site inspections. DL required; 0–2 years experience preferred; MS Office skills expected.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and log in contractors, employees, visitors and vendors at the entrance gate and verify requirements to be on site.
  • Monitor site radio, phones, and communications; maintain professional communications.
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly shift reports and incident logs as required.
  • Maintain and operate the site access card system; create profiles and manage cards.
  • Conduct random inspections of vehicles, property and areas for unauthorized items or conditions.
  • Ensure all entering vehicles meet site requirements and that equipment is inspected for safety.
  • Perform security rounds of site infrastructure and report conditions.
  • Act as primary dispatch for on-site emergencies and assist rescue and safety teams.
  • Assist with 40-hour First Responder training and emergency preparedness when needed.
  • Maintain productive relationships with HSE and mine teams; perform other tasks as assigned.

Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix.Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct themselves in a way that demonstrates support of Capstone Copper’s Values: Safety, Accountability, Excellence, and Caring in all efforts and interactions while working in compliance with all MSHA safety guidelines and Pinto Valley Mine policies and procedures.
  • Work towards attaining all necessary certifications or skills to execute the tasks / jobs assigned.
  • Assist in greeting and logging in all contractors, employees, visitors, and vendors at entrance gate and ensure they meet the appropriate, and current, requirements to be on PV property.
  • Notify appropriate site contacts of arrival of visitors or vendors and direct or escort visitors and vendors to their destination if necessary. Provide visitors and contractors with site specific training as needed.
  • Monitor site radio system, phones, and other communications as necessary and maintain professional and courteous manner in all communications.
  • Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly shift reports as required.
  • Write and submit incident reports for each incident and maintain appropriate logs for all incidents, emergencies, communications, and other activities.
  • Ensure all work completed supports activities of the subsequent shifts; communicate these activities to the cross shift and Supervisor.
  • Learn to maintain the requirements for, operate, and monitor the site access card system; create profiles; assign access; disable cards; produce cards when required; and maintain temporary card logbook.
  • Assist in conducting random inspections of vehicles, property, and areas to identify unauthorized items or circumstances.
  • Ensure all vehicles entering PV property meet site-specific requirements before being allowed entry to property, and that vehicles are in acceptable condition.
  • Assist in performing inspections of all equipment prior to its use on site to ensure it is MSHA and policy/procedure compliant.
  • Assist in conducting security rounds of the site infrastructure and surrounding property both by vehicle, and on foot, observe the condition of equipment and facilities and report and log any abnormal conditions.
  • Operate weigh scale and prepare shipping papers for product shipments and receive deliveries for the site.
  • Assist in monitoring and tracking weather conditions, including lightning tracking software, and notify mine personnel when potentially dangerous weather conditions are present using the mine radio.
  • Working toward competency to perform D.O.T., and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Company policies and state and federal guidelines.
  • Assist in serving as the primary dispatch for on-site emergencies and assist the mine rescue and safety teams to direct traffic, dispatch and direct additional support, and support site resources in mitigation and recovery efforts.
  • Working to complete 40-hour First Responder training to gain the ability to respond to emergencies and administer first aid treatment to ill and injured employees, contractors, and visitors as required.
  • Complete other safety or emergency response skills trainings as necessary to support the Safety, Health, and Mine Rescue teams in emergency preparedness as assigned.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with HSE team and PVM team members.
  • All other tasks/duties assigned or required.

Requirements:

  • Education/Experience: HS Diploma, 0-2 years of security experience (DOC, LE, Military, etc.)Must hold a valid driver's license.Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work in basic office computer skills. MS Office, Outlook, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work performed in both office and field environments
  • Frequent walking on uneven ground and around active mining areas
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat, dust, and wind
  • Work around heavy equipment and active operations
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas
  • Ability to always wear required PPE in operational areas

All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
