Job summary

Vast is seeking a Security Officer I to protect facilities and assets at our Long Beach site, reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Security. You will support access control, incident response, and daily security operations for a space-related manufacturing environment.

The role is full-time and non-exempt, with weekday and weekend shifts listed; ideal candidates have a high school diploma, BSIS Guard Card, and 2+ years in security, preferably in industrial or aerospace settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid California BSIS Guard Card (or ability to obtain before employment).
• Two+ years of security operations experience, preferably in an industrial, aerospace, or manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Verify the identity and point of contact of all visitors, ensuring access procedures are followed.
• Issue and manage visitor and temporary employee badges for authorized entry.
• Conduct routine patrols of buildings and perimeter to deter unauthorized activity.
• Observe, document, and report any security concerns or safety issues to management.
• Escort vendors and contractors and ensure compliance with security protocols.
• Provide security support to other departments and events as needed.
• Maintain accurate incident reports and shift logs.
• Respond professionally to security inquiries and emergencies per policy.
• Perform additional duties to support the security mission.

Vast is developing next-generation space stations and space infrastructure using an incremental, hardware-rich, and low-cost approach. Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station to ensure a continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2027, followed by additional Haven modules. Vast is looking for a Security Officer I, reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Security to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

This will be a full-time, non-exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

• Weekday Shifts: Monday-Friday: 7am-3pm, 3:00pm-11pm, 11pm-7am
• Weekend Shifts: Saturday & Sunday: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am

Responsibilities

• Verify the identity and point of contact of all visitors, ensuring compliance with facility access procedures.
• Issue and manage visitor and temporary employee badges, ensuring only authorized individuals enter designated areas.
• Conduct routine patrols of all buildings, perimeter areas, and critical infrastructure to detect and deter unauthorized activity.
• Observe, document, and report any suspicious behavior, security violations, or safety concerns to security management.
• Escort vendors and contractors as required, ensuring compliance with facility security protocols.
• Provide security assistance to other departments as needed, including support for special events or operational activities.
• Maintain accurate and detailed incident reports, shift logs, and security documentation.
• Respond professionally to security-related inquiries, safety concerns, and emergency situations in accordance with company policies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall security mission.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid California BSIS Guard Card or ability to obtain before employment.
• Two or more years of experience in security operations, preferably in an industrial, aerospace, or manufacturing environment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Strong customer service skills with a professional and courteous demeanor.
• Ability to de-escalate situations verbally and maintain composure under pressure.
• Prior BSIS or equivalent security training, such as de-escalation tactics, report writing, or defensive tactics.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise incident reports.
• Ability to work independently while following security procedures and protocols.

Additional Requirements

• Must be available to work all required shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs.
• Ability to stand, walk, and conduct patrols for extended periods across various terrains.
• Must be able to work in various climate conditions, including heat, wind, and cold.

Pay Range: California

$20 - $23 USD
