Responsibilities

  • Understand and execute post orders, enforce policies, rules and regulations.
  • Provide security-related customer service and emergency response.
  • Guard property against damage, theft, and unauthorized entry.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols by foot or vehicle.
  • Control site ingress/egress: check IDs, authorize admittance, verify property removal.
  • Process visitors and produce access badges per procedures.
  • Open/close perimeter gates and monitor gate/post activity.
  • Respond to incidents and communicate over radio as needed.
  • Maintain high standards of work areas and appearance.

JOB SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, the Security Officer provides security and protection of work site(s), personnel and assets at the assigned job site. Enforces safety and security measures, performs regular vehicular and foot patrols of assigned premises, performs access control duties, and responds to incidents based on established operational procedures.

The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but the company may identify other duties of the position. These responsibilities may differ depending on business necessities and client requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Understand and successfully execute post orders including enforcement of client and company policies, rules and regulations.
  • Provide security related customer service and emergency response activities as required.
  • Guard property against damage, fire, theft, and illegal or unauthorized entry.
  • Display courteous, respectful and professional interactions with the public and customers.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols (by foot or vehicle) of buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, and gates to ensure that they are properly secured.
  • Monitor the opening and closing of garage perimeter entry/exit gates.
  • Conduct vehicle security checks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform searches of people, vehicles, buildings, and other assigned areas.
  • Control site ingress and egress: check identification, authorize admittance, and verify company property removal.
  • Process visitors and produce access badges per established procedures.
  • Open and close perimeter gates. Follow established schedules for the site.
  • Monitor and respond to gate/post telephone activity. Direct requests to appropriate source.
  • May be asked to perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner.
  • Effectively and coherently communicate over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.
  • Interview people to detect infringements and to investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalism and accidents or incidents. Report irregularities to management.
  • Write Daily Activity Reports (and Incident Reports, if applicable) of events/services performed.
  • May assist management and law enforcement officials in emergency situations, apprehending unauthorized persons found on the property, etc.
  • Maintain high standards for work areas and appearance.
  • Must comply with established dress code/uniform requirements.
  • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professionalism.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety and operational procedures.
  • Officers may also be requested to take on receptionist duties, as well as access and asset control in areas such as Loading Docks.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to work a varying schedule including nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.
  • Attend company/job required training programs (classroom and virtual).
  • May step up into the Lead/Shift Supervisor role as requested.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The majority of the work is performed in and around a corporate office building with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.The employee will be required to work in a confined workspace such as a security guard post or patrol vehicle for extended periods of time. Exposure to work assignments consisting of 12-hour days; ability to work day or night shifts as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee’s work requires routine walking, sitting, standing, bending, pushing and/or pulling, and carrying items up to 50 lbs. Candidates will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-employment physical.
