Job summary

UF Health in St. Augustine, FL is seeking a PRN Armed Security Officer to patrol the campus, deter threats, and respond to incidents in high-stress areas such as the ER, Behavioral Center, and Maternal Child.

This role requires extensive experience in armed security, a high school diploma or equivalent, and Florida D and G licenses with BLS and IAHSS certifications. Schedule is assigned based on staffing needs and patient care demands.

Responsibilities

  • Documentation: keep detailed daily task records and incident reports.

Overview

PRN (as needed) Position:

***This is an as-needed position with no established schedule. Work days and hours will be assigned based on staffing vacancies and organizational needs.***

Location: 400 Health Park Blvd St. Augustine, Florida 32086

TheSecurity Officer - Armedis part of the uniformed armed division and is responsible for the departments' Patrol and Response strategy. Ensure proactive patrols, exceptional customer service and a willingness to serve. Responsible for helping to maintain a safe and secure operation of the healthcare campus including high-stress areas such as the ER, Maternal Child, Behavioral Center and others. Be familiar with and be able to rotate through all hospital zones. This position can be armed with a department-issued firearm and/or other defensive measures approved by the department.

Responsibilities
  • Exterior - Patrols campus for purposes of detection and deterrence. Conducts visual inspection of vehicles in all parking lots. Present at major shift changes to ensure staff safety with overt presence. Ensures unauthorized persons are not loitering. Assists with helistop landing safety and keeping a clear pad.
  • ER - Maintains presence within the ER zone which includes ER Waiting, pickup/drop-off areas, back treatment areas and EMS bay arrival. Maintain sense of calm to the environment, monitor staff at risk from patients under psychiatric holds, ensure emergency lanes and entrances are unobstructed. Assist during cases of Multiple Casualty Incidents (MCI) and provide primary backup to the Weapon Screening Officer. Work in concert with the posted Deputy on duties and proper assignment of requests between the two jurisdictions. Assist with Visitor badging to the ER.
  • Interior – Respond to all non-clinical emergency codes within the facility. Patrol building both as a security presence and aware of any safety issues that could harm staff/visitors/patients. Must be highly mobile and quick to respond when needed. This zone may be required to **assist in lobby with Visitor Badging**.
  • Documentation – Maintains detailed records of daily work tasks to include but not limited to, activity reports, Security Occurrence/Incident Reports and entering work orders in the maintenance system when deficiencies are found. Documentation is expected to be completed prior to the end of shift.
  • Other technologies – Daily interaction and use of radio and cell phone, access control systems, camera systems, infant alarm systems and weapons detection systems. Actively monitor and respond to important work related emails as needed throughout the day.
  • Firearm Program – Security Operations Manager is the Proprietary License Point of Contact. Officers are responsible for their department issued firearm at all times while on duty. Security Officer III’s may or may not be armed on a shift as directed by Management. Completion of the criteria contained in Department Use of Force Policy must be done in order to maintain the Security Officer III status.
  • Safety Awarenes – Must remain vigilant and corrective to safety concerns including but not limited to: slip, trip and fall risks, lights out in parking lot and main walkways, blocked fire egress routes, SDS hazmat issues. May be called upon to escort vendors to units. Officers will always observe safety protocols within construction, Lab, Radiology, Infant and Pharmacy areas.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
Qualifications
Education/Training:
  • High School Diploma/Equivalent required.
  • 2+ Year degree in related subject preferred.
Experience:
  • 10+ years armed security in a healthcare, government or other critical infrastructure market.
  • 10+ years Law Enforcement/Corrections or Military Police may substitute for prior Healthcare Security experience.
Certificates/Licenses/Registration:
  • Valid Florida’s Driver’s License,
  • Florida State D License (Security)
  • Florida State G License (Armed Security)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire.
  • Hospital De-escalation within 90days (and maintained annually thereafter)
  • IAHSS Healthcare Basic Security Officer Certification within 120 days.
  • IAHSS Advanced Security Officer Certification within first year (12 months).
Additional Information:

Armed Officer program requires Florida State D and G license as well as semiannual range time
