Job summary

PCH Princeton Community Hospital in Bluefield, WV is seeking a Security Officer to support patients, visitors and staff by maintaining safety and enforcing hospital policies. The role includes assisting with mobility, monitoring parking, and responding to emergencies in a professional manner.

The position requires a HS diploma or equivalent with security experience or an Associate’s degree, plus certifications and a valid driver's license. The role is non-exempt and onsite with rotating shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year security experience or an associate’s degree in a related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Obtain BLS/HeartSaver First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal background checks as required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain visibility at assigned locations to assist patients, visitors and staff with information.
  • Respond to requests for information/information in a courteous manner.
  • Provide wheelchair assistance, transport and escort services within WVU Medicine facilities.
  • Monitor traffic flow in parking areas and issue permits or warnings.
  • Protect people and property by preventing accidents, theft and vandalism as per policy.
  • Perform routine rounds, door unlocks, and exterior patrols.
  • Report incidents and suspicious activities to supervision.

Job description

Performs a variety of duties to provide assistance and information to all patients, visitors and staff. Enforce WVU Medicine policies and procedures to provide a safe, secure environment, in support of the Security Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  1. High School diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of experience in security field OR Associate’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law or related field of study
  2. Valid Driver’s License
  3. Obtain certification in BLS or HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire date.
  4. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

  3. Baton Certification

  6. AVADE Training Levels I - III

CORE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide an information and directional resource for all patients, visitors and staff distributing accurate information to all who request such.

  2. Responds to all patient, visitor and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner.

  3. Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services and room access patients, visitors and staff accessing WVU Medicine facilities.

  4. Monitors and maintains traffic flow in parking areas and roadways by assisting disabled vehicles, issuing parking permits and warning violations.

  5. Protects people and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft and vandalism, in accordance with system and department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision.

  6. Performs routine building rounds, building door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot patrol.

  7. Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.

  8. Reports suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents and persons, according to system and department policy and procedures.

  9. Responds and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues, according to system and department policy and procedures.

  10. Provides written documentation of activities, incidents, premises safety, accidents, theft, vandalism and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective and legible manner.

  11. Responds to and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during emergency situations such as; assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters, etc.

  12. Performs patient restraint as directed by clinical staff, and is capable of physical intervention when appropriate.

  13. Operates Hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.

  14. Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections, as outlined by departmental policy.

  15. Other requirements may include: Incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, restraining patients, disaster response, domestic disputes, med G assists, parking enforcement, consistent presence and visibility, helicopter assignments, media issues, victim assistance, engages in traffic direction, policy enforcement, investigation of alarms, duress, etc., physical intervention, tire changing, battery jumps, parking rounds, effective radio communication, escorts patients/visitors/staff, accurate directions to customers, loss prevention, vehicle assists, transport equipment/staff/visitors/patients, posts assignments for exterior patrol/all canopy/all booths/building rounds/ED, and STOPS training.
