Tennessee State University is seeking a Security Officer 1 to patrol campus, observe incidents, and report violations of law or university policies. You will direct traffic, enforce campus rules, and maintain accurate records as part of a team ensuring a safe environment.

The role requires familiarity with security procedures, ability to work a flexible schedule, and the capacity to operate security equipment. Training and compliance with university standards are provided.

Job Description

Patrols, observes and reports incidents or activities that appear to be in violation of the law or violation of university rules and regulation and of a questionable and suspicious nature; reports accidents involving persons or property; report probable cause of incidents and pursue appropriate course of action and informs proper authorities as required; directs and controls traffic on campus; handle duties as prescribed by an assigned fixed post orders; enforce and abide by all lawful orders and directives give to you by your immediate supervisor and supervisory chain of command; testify in court or in legal proceedings as required by the nature of your position; check for valid university identification and any other plaque, decal, or sticker issued by the university; issues parking citations; operates and maintains security equipment; keeps records and makes reports; and performs other related work as assigned. Security Officer may be required to drive a TSUPD security vehicle, during their shift. Be assigned to a security booth, substation, campus building, and any other area on campus.

This position requires availability on all three shifts, weekend and holiday work as well as mandatory work periods to include commencements, registration, concerts and other special events sponsored by the university both on and off campus. MUST comply with all city, state and national ordinances. Must obey all laws, on and off duty; During your tour of duty, you Must treat all persons with the utmost respect and professionalism; Must at all times perform and carry oneself in the highest ethical manner possible; uniforms will always be neat and clean; equipment will be in good working order. Well-groomed is a must and will comply with department policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Meets the requirements of TCA 38-8-106, Qualifications of Police Officers; be at least eighteen (18) years of age; be a citizen of the United States; be a high school graduate or possess equivalency; not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances; not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States; have his fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation; have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician; have a good moral character as determined by the thorough investigation conducted by the employing agency; and be free of all apparent mental disorders as described in the Diagnostic and Statistical manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition ( DSM -111) of the American Psychiatric Association. Applicants must be certified as meeting these criteria by a qualified professional in the psychiatric or psychological fields. Possess a valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
