Job summary

Avera McKennan is seeking a security professional to protect patients, staff, and visitors within the facility. Responsibilities include patrolling premises, monitoring visitors, reporting hazards, and responding to emergencies with coordination from hospital leadership.

The role emphasizes safety, communication, and adherence to CARE principles. Shifts include Day/Evening/Weekend/Holiday coverage; the team works to ensure a secure, respectful environment while supporting ongoing patient care

Qualifications

  • Visual acuity adequate to perform duties and the ability to communicate clearly.
  • Respond to emergencies and follow safety protocols.

  • Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises.
  • Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
  • Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel, students, and visitors.
  • Provide restraints for psychiatric patients as needed.
  • Escort personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings as requested.
  • Participate in investigations; Maintain records and prepare incident reports.

Location: Avera Family Medicine Center Dawley Farm Worker Type: Regular Work Shift: Day/Evening/Weekend/Holiday Shift (United States of America) Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $20.50 - $25.50

A Brief Overview

Responsible to provide security for patients, employees, and visitors; protects hospital buildings, assesses, and premises as assigned. Also provides traffic control and maintains parking lots and structures.

What you will do
  • Patrol hospital buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders.
  • Monitor conduct of visitors on hospital premises.
  • Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
  • Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel, students, and visitors.
  • Provide restraints for psychiatric patients as needed.
  • Escort personnel to parking lots and hospital buildings as requested.
  • Participate in investigations;
  • Maintain records and prepare incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Secure and/or unlock offices and facilities as required.
  • May secure patient valuables or lost and found articles.
  • Maintains log of items received.
  • Control parking and traffic flow.
  • Enforce parking regulations.
  • Respond to all emergency codes and security requests (i.e. Staff Assist, Security Alert, Fire alarms).
  • Respond to CARE Flight operations as needed.
  • Mentors security interns in the role of security.
  • Serves as a liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
