Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain Defensive Tactics certification; if none, obtain within 90 days.
  • Must have and maintain Handle with Care certification; if none, obtain within 90 days.
  • Must complete IAHSS Basic Certification for Security Officer within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and complete all TCRHCC mandatory training.
  • Perform security duties at fixed posts or on rounds to protect patients, staff and visitors.
  • Respond to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate written reports and daily log activities.
  • Assist with escorting and directing visitors as needed.
  • Monitor access and enforce facility policies to ensure safety.

Pursuant to this Plan and corresponding TCRHCC Policy, applicants who meet the necessary qualifications for this position and (1) are enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe will be given preference in hiring and employment for this position, (2) are legally married to enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, or San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe and meet residency requirements will be given secondary preference, and (3) are enrolled members of other federally-recognized American Indian Tribes will be given tertiary preference.

Position Summary

The Security Officer provides vigilant security services and excellent customer services to patients, visitors, and staff across Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC), including satellite clinics and the Kaibeto Creek Independent Living Center. Responsibilities include responding promptly to alarms, emergencies, and life-threatening incidents with a focus on maintaining safety and security. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including overtime, weekends, evenings, and being on-call for emergency callbacks.

Experience

Must have six (6) months of experience with providing security services to a large organization, school, or health care facility. (Acceptable experience includes services in the armed services that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.)

Certification
  • Must maintain and have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions
  • Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) if none must obtain within ninety (90) days of employment hire date.
  • Must have and maintain current Defensive Tactics certification; if none, must obtain within ninety (90) days of employment hire date.
  • Must have and maintain current Handle with Care certification if none, must obtain within ninety (90) days of employment hire date.
  • Must complete the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification for Security Officer within six (6) months of hire

  • Successful completion of fingerprint clearance requirements, physical examinations, and other screenings indicating that the applicant is qualified to be employed by TCRHCC and demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education

Associate degree in Criminal Justice Administration or successful completion of training in an accredited technical school that covered subjects such as physical security procedures, local laws or investigative techniques.

Will need to maintain ability to deal with high level of stress, making decisions under high pressure, copes with anger/ fear/ hostility of others in a calm way, manage altercations, concentrate, work alone, and adapt to shift work for prolonged period of time. May frequently need to be flexible, have high level of patience, and work in crowded close area.

Environment

Position may require prolong work in outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold; or extreme heat. May require frequent work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. This position requires infrequent exposure to wet, humid conditions; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation; and vibration. Typical noise level in position is moderate. May occasionally be exposed to unprotected heights.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Attend and complete all TCRHCC mandatory training.
  • Must obtain certification for Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing Tactics, Defense Baton, Pepper Spray Defense, and De-Escalation within ninety (90) days of employment hire date and maintain certification every two years.
  • Participate in all required quarterly and annual training courses, including the Physical Assessment Battery, Active Shooter Response, Emergency Management, Use of Force protocols, and other assigned training.
  • Provide a secure environment. Performs security duties either to a fixed post, or while making rounds of hospital buildings and grounds. Checks for unauthorized persons, general security violations, and fire or safety hazards.
  • Assisting patients and visitors with directions and providing general information about the hospital.
  • Reports all problems and emergencies to immediate supervisor, and documents security incidents with a written report and daily log activities. Written reports are to be clear and accurate and submitted before the end of shift.
  • Controls evidence, valuables, and lost/found items as necessary.
  • Secure lost and found articles. Receive, tag, log, and secure all lost and found articles. Attempt to contact owners, if known, and make arrangements for return of property. Keep lost and found storage area clean, neat, and secure. Make proper disposition of articles not claimed within holding period as set out in Departmental Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Responds to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances as necessary.
  • Handles disruptive individuals with good verbal intervention techniques. Combative individuals may require physical intervention.
  • Normal duties require extensive walking, standing, and/or running.
  • Operating security equipment such as BRIVO, cameras, and alarms.
  • Reporting and investigating any security breaches, suspicious activity, or illegal activity to security supervisors or other authorities as needed.
  • Performing physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling patients or equipment
  • Screens all individuals entering the facilities to ensure they have business purpose to be in the building. Check ID badges and ensures that employees wear badges as required. Confirms that all vendors and contractors are authorized to be on property and have signed in.
  • Ensures that all visitors comply with the TCRHCC rules and regulations.
  • Escorts all unauthorized persons from the hospital campus.
  • Provides security escorts to employees, patients, patient family, and visitors. Provides escort with service and friendly demeanor to reinforce comfort level.
  • Assist with campus parking. Appropriately screens all persons entering any visitor designated lot. Assists employees, patients, and visitors with any parking related issue.
  • Provides support during helicopter landing.
  • Participates as directed in all Emergency Preparedness Events.
  • Collaborating with law enforcement agencies and other emergency services as needed
  • Conducting security checks on staff members who have access to sensitive areas of the hospital.
  • Monitoring security cameras and alarm systems for signs of unusual activity
  • Participating in regular training to maintain and improve security-related skills.
  • Conducts mobile patrol of all TCRHCC residential areas, report all suspicious activities, and contact appropriate authorities for criminal activities.
  • Assist with transportation and lifting of deceased bodies.
  • Will not leave the assigned patrol areas without being properly relieved. Provides relief to security staff for lunch, daily breaks, leave, and act as a back-up for the security officers as necessary to ensure proper security staffing.
  • Participates in the current fire and disaster plan.
  • Conducts minor animal control.
  • Ensure proper PPE is worn at all times while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
  • Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
  • Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
