Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan is seeking a full-time Security Officer to respond to emergencies, perform rounds, and protect patients, visitors, and staff. You will document incidents, escort visitors, and ensure adherence to safety policies while maintaining confidentiality.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record. Training beyond high school and healthcare security experience are preferred. Shift is 10:00pm–6:30am.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Driving record must be within the approved insurance company’s regulations.
  • Training beyond high school in related programs.
  • Previous experience in health care industry, mental health or corrections.
  • Six months of prior work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Make rounds, inside and outside of assigned areas, and document all unusual or suspicious incidents.
  • Provide assistance to other security personnel and hospital employees; escort visitors as needed.
  • Observe and document policy non-conformances, including ID badges, fire and safety procedures.
  • Complete all required paperwork timely and accurately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee, patient and security information.
  • Respond to nursing and department calls to assist with disorderly patients or emergencies.
  • Carry and train for Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW/TASER) per policy where applicable.
  • Follow scripts when answering phone and interacting with visitors entering/exiting the facility.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and planning as described in policies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Associate degree in criminal justice, security administration or related field

Position Summary: Under general supervision, responsibilities include being a first responder to emergency situations at the assigned facility; makes periodic tours to secure areas, provides customer service, mitigates sudden behavioral occurrences, deter crimes, checks for irregularities and inspects protection devices and fire control equipment. Assists in the enforcement of security/safety related regulations, and protects hospital patients, visitors, staff and property from hazardous conditions and/or criminal activities, including the potential for violence in the workplace.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Makes rounds, inside and outside of assigned areas as scheduled or assigned, investigating and documenting all unusual or suspicious incidents, initiating corrective action as appropriate.
2. Provides assistance to other security personnel, hospital employees, and escorts visitors to desired locations as necessary.
3. Observes and documents the non-conformance of policies and procedures including but not limited to the display of identification badges, fire, disaster, electrical, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
4. Accurately completes all required paperwork on a timely basis.
5. Demonstrates discretion in handling confidential information; maintains confidentiality of all employee, patient, visitor, physician, hospital, and security related information.
6. Responds to calls from nursing and other hospital departments in a timely manner to assist in the management of disorderly patients and/or visitors and emergency codes.
7. Security Officers who carry a Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW)/Taser are required to successfully complete all required training, per the Conducted Electrical Weapon – TASER Policy (92210-0025).
8. Performs functions in accordance with established standards of performance, including but not limited to, using pre-established script when answering phone calls and when interacting with customers entering and exiting the facility.
9. Participates in emergency preparedness drill, education and planning to the extent described in system, operations and departmental policies.
10. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
