Job summary

Lawson State Community College in Alabama seeks a Security Officer to promote civil order, enforce laws, and conduct investigations across campus. You will patrol facilities, respond to alarms, prepare detailed incident reports, interview witnesses, and support campus safety operations.

Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, one year of security experience, and strong English communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Able to work extended and flexible day, hours and shifts.
  • Must have a valid Alabama driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol the campus and conduct tours of buildings and grounds by vehicle or on foot.
  • Monitor events on campus to ensure safety for students and attendees.
  • Respond to and investigate incidents on campus and campus violations.
  • Enforce laws and assist in arrests and issuing summons.
  • Lock/unlock doors and inspect buildings for hazards.
  • Issue tickets for parking violations and monitor policies.

The Security Officer promotes and maintains civil order; enforces laws and ordinances; conducts investigations; issues citations and makes arrests; patrols assigned areas to provide security; responds to alarm calls; prepares detailed reports concerning crimes and incidents; interviews victims and witnesses; maintains equipment in functional condition; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with the college community and community-at-large. Performs additional duties as required.

Salary Schedule: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E5 Grade 06 ($29, 989 - $48,180 ) based on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Patrol the campus and make scheduled tours of buildings and grounds by vehicle or on foot to ensure buildings and persons are secure.
  • Monitor events on campus to ensure security and safety for the students, participants, and attendees.
  • Respond to and investigate incidents on campus including but not limited to motor vehicle incidents, or criminal or college violations as assigned.
  • Enforce criminal and traffic laws; assists LSCC Police as needed in making arrests and issuing summons.
  • Lock and unlock outer doors, check buildings and hallways after hours for signs of unusual activity.
  • Issue tickets to violators of campus parking regulations.
  • Monitor students and visitors to ensure compliance with college policies and regulations.
  • Complete clear and concise written offense reports immediately following an incident.
  • Log all activities in daily log register.
  • Inspect all assigned areas for safety hazards.
  • Investigate all adverse campus conditions and situations.
  • Recertify on firearms range annually.
  • Lift, carry and move heavy objects within safety limits.
  • Serve on committees as assigned by Committee on Committees.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekends
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of full-time work experience in security or law enforcement
  • Effective oral and written skills
  • Must be able to work extended and flexible day, hours and shifts
  • Must possess superb verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly speak and write in English
  • Valid State of Alabama Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Must be able to perform walking, climbing, running, bending, moving, standing, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to respond quickly to all areas of the institution in response to security-related issues
  • Must be able to remain calm and professional in a crisis or stressful situation
  • Ability to hear and communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to critically think and use good judgment in all matter
