Position Overview:

The Security Officer reports to the Security Manager and is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment at the Mountain Pass site. The Security Officer performs access control, personnel processing, badge issuance, visitor and vendor screening, truck and delivery coordination, patrols, incident response, and other assigned security duties while following Company policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Controls vehicle and visitor access to the site and verifies authorization before permitting entry.
  • Processes employees, contractors, vendors, and other authorized personnel entering the site in accordance with established security procedures.
  • Creates, issues, activates, and tracks employee and contractor identification badges as authorized; maintains accurate badge and access-control records.
  • Greets site visitors and vendors in a professional manner, verifies identity and authorization, completes required sign-in procedures, and provides directions or coordinates escorts as needed.
  • Directs trucks and commercial vehicles entering the site for deliveries and coordinates with receiving departments or site contacts to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow.
  • Monitors and facilitates visitor sign-in and sign-out, including verification of identity and permission to access the facility.
  • Conducts regular and sporadic patrols of the property, gates, buildings, parking areas, and other assigned locations and documents observations or concerns.
  • Monitors gates, access-control systems, CCTV, alarms, radios, keys, and other assigned security equipment.
  • Uses telephone and radio communications to verify activities, coordinate access, and maintain situational awareness.
  • Follows established key-control procedures and maintains accountability for keys and access devices.
  • Completes daily activity reports, incident reports, logs, witness statements, and other required security documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Reacts quickly and professionally to requests for Security assistance, alarms, medical incidents, workplace disturbances, access-control issues, and other security events.
  • Summons emergency, medical, fire, or law-enforcement assistance when required and assists responding personnel with access and directions.
  • Preserves relevant information, video, access-control records, photographs, or other documentation related to incidents when directed.
  • Provides clear and thorough pass-down information to the oncoming Security Officers at shift change.
  • Maintains professional communication with employees, contractors, visitors, vendors, management, EHS, Human Resources, and emergency responders.
  • Maintains the Security Office, assigned vehicle, radios, and other equipment in a clean and operational condition.
  • Follows all Company safety and health requirements and properly wears required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Performs other security-related duties as assigned.
Other Functions:
  • Provide shift pass down to on-coming shift; ensuring any duties that need completion are passed to the next shift.
  • Escort emergency personnel to locations where they are needed.
  • Patrol facility by way of company provided vehicle.
  • Conduct assigned inspections of key areas and various equipment (vehicles, fire extinguishers, life safety equipment, etc.).
  • Provide transportation for either injured employees to the nearest medical facility for treatment or drug screening.
  • Ensure Security Office is always cleaned and maintained in an orderly manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Security, military, law enforcement, protective services, or related security background preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record
  • Must have California BSIS and Nevada PILB Security License s or be able to obtain
  • Must maintain all required BSSIS and Nevada PILB security licenses, permits, and certifications
  • Must be capable of performing static post duties, including access control, patrol, and response to security incidents
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods while performing security duties, including access control, patrols, visitor processing, and monitoring assigned areas. The position may require prolonged periods of standing based on operational and security needs, with the ability to sit when duties reasonably permit.
  • Must be honest, dependable, professional, and exercise good judgment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently with employees, contractors, vendors, truck drivers, and visitors.

Working Conditions

Our facility sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. Employees may be subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting (heat and cold, wind). Work is at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, which may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.

Physical Demands

Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing – all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing – distant/near; depth perception; color vision. While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand long periods and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
