Role Description

The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for patients, visitors, and team members in an acute behavioral health setting. This full-time, on-site role is located in the Greater Minneapolis–St. Paul Area and involves monitoring facility entrances and exits, patrolling interior and exterior areas, and responding promptly to safety or security incidents. Daily tasks include de-escalating situations using trauma-informed, non-violent techniques, enforcing safety policies, supporting staff during crisis events, and completing accurate incident reports. The Security Officer collaborates closely with clinical and administrative teams, assists with emergency procedures, and ensures adherence to organizational and regulatory standards.

Qualifications
  • Ability to maintain safety and security in a healthcare or behavioral health environment, including facility patrols, incident response, and basic emergency procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, de-escalation, and maintaining calm under pressure in emotionally charged situations.
  • Basic documentation and reporting skills, including clear written incident reports and accurate record-keeping.
  • Capacity to follow established policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements related to patient safety and privacy.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and respond quickly throughout a shift, and to assist in safety interventions when necessary.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in security, law enforcement, or public safety is preferred.
  • Previous experience in security, mental or behavioral health settings, or healthcare is beneficial.
