Job summary

The Security Officer is responsible for providing safety and security services which requires regular interactions with patients, visitors, caregivers, and clinicians in highly diverse and complex situations. Interacts with local law enforcement to provide information, event clarification, and coordinate emergency protocols. Performs other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide safety and security services which includes; patrolling grounds, parking lots, buildings, securing entryways, exits, etc., to effectively address potential conduct issues, violations of policy, check for property damage, inspect safety issues, inspect certain safety features such as fire extinguishers or water valves, respond to all codes, address trespassing concerns, provide assistance with out of control patients, and utilizes electronic checkpoints.
• Provide stand-by service or escort services for protection of caregivers or patients as needed.
• Respond to all emergency situations and applies appropriate protocols for the Code. Deliver courtesy services such as answering questions and providing directions.
• Responsible for coordinating information, clarification of events, and coordinating emergency protocols which may require collaboration with external safety and law enforcement agencies.
• Responsible for adhering to protocols. Complete, file and maintain correct documentation, filing reports, and assist with maintaining building access control by utilizing the computerized badge/door system.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA);
• Skill to operate software programs;
• Ability to formulate a plan of action, carry it out with control and apply crisis intervention and de-escalation skills;
• Ability to communicate professionally over the telephone and in person in a positive and clear manner;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, including telephone, computer operations and in-person visits simultaneously;

Physical Activities

Must be able to hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, and stooping, climbing on stools and ladders, and routinely lifting and carrying items and boxes up to forty (40) pounds. Good physical condition to walk, run, and lift as needed.

Qualifications: License(s)

Possess current valid State of Alaska driver's license with a record acceptable to KIC’s Insurance carrier.

Education / Experience
