Job summary

Job description

The Security Officer follows the safety and security department protocols, ensuring that all students and staff enjoy a safe and secure school campus.

JOB SCOPE

High level of decision-making regarding day‑to‑day operations of always keeping the school campus safe. Works independently and with the Security Team on problem resolution, as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Campus Patrol: Conduct regular and random patrols of the campus, including classrooms, playgrounds, parking areas, and other facilities to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors
  • Access Control: Monitor entry and exit points to prevent unauthorized access
  • Emergency Response: Serve as a first responder to any emergencies or incidents on campus. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as necessary under the direction of the Director of Safety and Security
  • Provide first aid and CPR until professional medical assistance arrives
  • Surveillance: Operate and monitor security cameras and alarm systems. Conduct regular checks to ensure all security equipment is functional and report any malfunctions for immediate repair.
  • Safety Drills: Assist in the development and implementation of safety protocols and emergency evacuation drills. Educate students and staff on security procedures.
  • Incident Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed security logs and reports. Document any security breaches, unusual occurrences, or safety hazards.
  • Communication: Serve as a point of contact for security concerns for students, staff, and parents. Communicate effectively with all members of the school community.
  • Contributes to the prevention of accidents and injuries by monitoring compliance to safety rules and addressing reported accidents and injuries immediately

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must pass a Law Enforcement Pre‑Screening
  • Must pass a MMPI III Psychological Test
  • Must pass Criminal Background Checks, reference checks and Drug Testing
  • Must possess a Level III Security Officer Certification
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in security, preferably in an educational setting
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
  • Physical fitness to perform patrols and respond to emergencies
  • In‑depth understanding of school security and crisis management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact and communicate appropriately and professionally with parents, students, and colleagues
  • Ability to maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving skills while under stress
  • Possess the qualification to carry a sidearm
Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher education or certifications in security, law enforcement, or related fields
  • Ability to exercise judgment in decision-making
  • Knowledge of School Resource Officer (SRO) program

  • Licensed firearm approved by Director of Safety and Security

JOB CONDITIONS
  • Works in standard office conditions
  • Works outdoors in various climates conducting safety and security checks
  • Prolonged and irregular hours as needed
  • May encounter hazardous situations
  • Works a scheduled shift as assigned by Director of Safety and Security which may be subject to change based on operational needs
