Job summary

UR Medicine Thompson Health seeks a security operations leader responsible for maintaining a safe environment and managing security, telecommunication, and switchboard functions across the Health System.

You will support the Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness Manager, helping develop and coordinate emergency programs to ensure efficient care and safety for patients, families, and associates.

Qualifications

Job description

Primarily responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment. Manage the administrative, fiscal and operational aspects of the security and switchboard functions of the Health System. Supports the Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness Manager in the development, maintenance and coordination of activities for the System–wide Emergency Preparedness Program to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency for patients, families and associate safety.

Job Specific Competencies:

• Demonstrates skill in managing people, processes, programs, budgets, schedules, conflicts and information.
• Has knowledge of laws, regulations, principles and practices related to security and telecommunication operations.
• Has a proven ability to handle upset and potentially violent patients, visitors and associates.
• Manages the security and telecommunications staff to deliver superior service to the facility.
• Performs routine policy and procedure reviews to maintain the highest level of preparedness as related to security and telecom operations.
• Ensures that security guards and telecommunications staff are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the mission of the two departments can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
• Demonstrates the ability to lead independently, exhibits flexibility in decision making, prioritize efforts according to the System’s Vision, Mission and Values, and maintains collaborative working relationships with other departments.
• Actively guards the confidential information including, but not limited to, patients, associates and the Health System.
• Tracks, analyzes and improves key parameters such as security incidents, accidents, patient watches, cost, schedule compliance, code calls, etc.
• Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Ensures city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to security operations are met at all times.
• Actively guards the confidentiality of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system.

Qualifications:

• Required: NYS Licensed Security Guard or police/peace officer exemption
• Required: A valid New York drivers’ license with a good driving record

Education and Experience:

• Five (5) year’s progressive management in law enforcement with experience with program planning, supervision and development of staff, and fiscal responsibilities required.
• Former police supervisor preferred.
• The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Associates degree from a two‑year college in a related technical field or certificate or diploma from an accredited school in related field and five years’ experience in law enforcement or security operations or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Bachelors’ Degree preferred.
