Job summary

Convergint is seeking a full-time Security Installation Technician in Manhattan, KS. You will install, program, test, repair and service security, fire alarm and life safety systems, and provide technical installation support and training.

You will read manuals and wiring diagrams, collaborate with customers and colleagues, own on-site projects with safety and quality, and progress through the Electrical Installer path within Convergint's culture of growth.

Qualifications

  • Experience installing wiring for access control, network cameras, door hardware, and programming door/camera additions.
  • Comfortable performing tests on fire systems.
  • Solid understanding of blueprints, design drawings, wiring methods and labeling.
  • Able to read blueprints and drawings and use standard test instruments.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to work under pressure.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record.

Responsibilities

  • Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of systems including security, fire alarm & life safety with minimal guidance.
  • Provide technical installation support and training to customers and colleagues.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams and repair equipment using electronics knowledge.
  • Take ownership of onsite projects ensuring safety, quality and performance.
  • Progress through the Electrical Installer III trade program.

Convergint is looking for a full-time, enthusiastic, results driven and forward-thinking Security Installation Technician to join our amazing culture. You will work closely with customers and internal colleagues in providing technical installation support and training. What You’ll Do

  • Install, program, test, repairs, and service a variety of systems and equipment which may include security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation with minimal guidance as needed.
  • Work closely with customers and internal colleagues in providing technical installation support and training. May assist or train less experienced Electrical Installers. Refers more complex issues to more experienced colleagues.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Provide basic installation assistance as directed by project lead.
  • Act as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times thereby ensuring Convergint Technologies is the customer’s first choice for service.
  • Take ownership of onsite project including safety, quality and performance. Observe and practice Convergint Quality Standards.
  • Make suggestions for installation methods to improve profitability and quality.
  • Learn and perform tasks of an Electrical Installer III in order to progress through the trade program.
  • Provide feedback to the Job-Lead regarding problems and anticipate time associated with an assigned task. Act as primary liaison to Project Lead.
What You’ll Need
  • Experience installing and wiring access control, network cameras, door hardware, panel installation & wiring, and programming of door and camera additions.
  • Comfortability performing test and inspect on fire systems.
  • Solid understanding of blueprints, design drawings including wiring and labeling methods, system wiring, wiring methods, cut sheets, wiring schematics, and cable support installation (J-Hook, Raceway, Conduit, Cable Support).
  • Very familiar with basic blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures unassisted, may require assistance with more complex specifications.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of, and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper) and ability to read blueprints and drawings; solid math skills (for some positions, this may include calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.).
  • Solid verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The Project Specialist will be responsible for providing basic hand tools as required to perform the daily tasks of the position.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Requirements

Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience

Minimum Experience
  • Previous construction experience including some level of electrical or a low voltage background
  • 1-3 years experience in 1 or more of the following industries: electronic, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation
Preferred Experience (but Not Required)
  • Relevant trade designation (e.g. Electrician, Communications)
  • Experience with access control and camera systems
  • Certifications & Licenses: Project Management Institute (PMI); industry-specific certifications and/or
