Job summary

Job description

The Security Guard II is a position within the security and protective service field of work. Guards in this classification generally provide security services protecting people, facilities, government property, and mission operations.

The Security Guard II is able to perform a variety of fixed-post, mobile, or foot patrols controlling access, monitoring security systems, screening vehicles and packages, and responding to incidents and emergencies, while maintaining situational awareness and making decisions and/or taking actions consistent with established post orders, facility rules, guidelines and protocols.

Full-time, part-time, and on-call shifts may be available.

The pay rate for this position is $20.29/hour + $5.42/hour H&W.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

• Attend roll call before assuming duty, receive post assignments and briefings, and exchange relevant security information.
• Remain at the assigned post until properly relieved and maintain continuous post coverage.
• Enforce site regulations and procedures intended to prevent security breaches, unauthorized access, loss, damage, and disruption.
• Exercise sound judgment during incidents and emergencies by determining whether to intervene, request assistance, maintain control or surveillance, or report the matter to the appropriate authority.
• Control access at assigned entrance points by validating credentials, checking employee parking tags, screening visitors, new employees, service personnel, and vehicles, and issuing or verifying passes as authorized.
• Operate screening equipment, which may include x-ray systems, walk-through magnetometers, hand held detectors, and related inspection equipment.
• Inspect incoming mail, packages, deliveries, and delivery vehicles for prohibited or suspicious items and follow required notification and response procedures.
• Monitor access-control alarms, digital video systems, fire alarm points, building automation alarms, radios, telephones, and other Security Control Center systems when assigned.
• Conduct indoor and outdoor roving patrols and inspections of Government property, buildings, parking areas, roads, grounds, and other designated locations.
• Serve as a first responder to security incidents and emergencies; contact and coordinate with law enforcement, fire, medical, and other emergency responders as directed.
• Conduct property-pass verification and authorized spot checks of employee property, including bags, briefcases, and computer cases.
• Perform counter-surveillance observations and promptly report suspicious activity, safety hazards, security deficiencies, and unusual conditions.
• Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, patrol records, visitor records, key-control records, and other required documentation.
• Safely carry, secure, inspect, clean, and maintain assigned firearms and equipment in accordance with training, manufacturer guidance, post orders, and company policy.
• Maintain required licenses, permits, medical qualifications, firearms qualifications, training certifications, and federal credentials.
• Provide professional, courteous service to employees, visitors, customers, and the public while maintaining appropriate security controls.
• Perform other job-related duties assigned by authorized Ahtna Logistics or Government personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not normally supervise employees and works under the direction of an assigned Shift Supervisor and the Project Manager.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year of security/civilian law enforcement experience OR an equivalent position with the United States Armed Forces (military).
• Must be fluent in speaking and writing in English.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Must be able to pass criminal background screen, federal background check, drug test and physical exam.

Work is performed at fixed indoor posts, in a security control center, at controlled entrances, in screening areas, in patrol vehicles, and outdoors throughout the EROS campus. The position involves public contact, controlled-access operations, rotating shifts, and potential exposure to emergency, confrontational, or hazardous situations inherent in armed protective security work.

Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, times, days as scheduled to meet the requirements of the contract (Night and weekend work required.)
