Job summary

Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) seeks a Security Guard to provide general security services across campus locations and to assist campus police with routine patrols and security measures.

The role involves patrolling facilities, reporting incidents, supporting emergency procedures, and maintaining security records. Prior security or law enforcement experience is preferred; a high school diploma or GED and a Tennessee driver’s license are required.

Title: Security Guard

Position Summary

Provides general security services to the campus and assists campus police officers with routine patrols and other security measures.

Essential Job Functions / Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform job duties from the assigned campus or work location.
• Patrols campus by foot, bicycle or motor vehicle.
• Identifies and reports suspected crimes, accidents or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature.
• Reports accidents involving persons or property, reporting probable cause of accidents, pursuing appropriate course of action and informing proper authorities as required.
• Provides security for special events.
• Writes citations for parking violations.
• Provides direction and/or instruction to faculty, staff and students in unusual or emergency situations.
• Participates in campus training for emergencies and for law enforcement officers.
• Monitors classrooms, offices and buildings for safety and/or maintenance concerns.
• Maintains and utilizes security equipment.
• Maintains department records and prepares reports.
• May testify in court or during legal proceedings as needed.
• Shifts and campus assignments vary and are based on current need.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Tennessee driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior security or law enforcement experience
