Job summary

Microsoft in Washington, DC is seeking a Security Engineer (Red Team) to emulate adversaries, validate detection, and strengthen defender readiness. You will conduct end-to-end vulnerability assessments and real-world attack simulations, analyzing data sources including source code to uncover weaknesses and drive improvements across Microsoft infrastructure.

Required is a Bachelor's in statistics/math/CS or equivalent experience, with preferred Master's or 2+ years in security.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
• Pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
• Citizenship verification due to export control regulations (ITAR/EAR, EU Dual Use, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Discover and exploit vulnerabilities end-to-end to assess security of systems and services.
• Execute Red Team operations using real-world adversarial tactics to validate detection, investigation, and response capabilities.
• Analyze data sources, including source code, to uncover security weaknesses across Microsoft infrastructure.
• Leverage AI and agentic approaches for vulnerability discovery and threat emulation.
• Collaborate with Blue Teams to improve readiness and deliver defensive solutions.
• Review simulated adversary tactics to enrich defensive tactics and threat intelligence.
• Build partnerships and clearly communicate the impact of risks to advocate for security change.
• Present security risks to a large audience.

Security Engineer (Red Team) supports Microsoft’s ability to emulate real-world adversaries, validate detection and response, and strengthen defender readiness.

Responsibilities

• Discover and exploit vulnerabilities end-to-end to assess the security of systems and services
• Help execute Red Team operations using real-world adversarial tactics and techniques to validate detection, investigation, and response capabilities
• Analyze a wide range of data sources, including source code, to uncover security weaknesses and potential breach points across Microsoft infrastructure
• Leverage Artificial Intelligence and agentic approaches for vulnerability discovery and threat emulation
• Collaborate with Blue Teams to improve readiness and deliver solutions for defenders and customers
• Review simulated adversary tactics and communications to enrich defensive tactics and threat intelligence
• Build partnerships and clearly communicate the impact of risks to advocate for security change
• Present security risks to a large audience

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field OR equivalent experience
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements for this role
• Must be able to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
• Citizenship/citizenship verification required due to access to information controlled for export under applicable regulations, potentially including ITAR or EAR, EU Dual Use regulation, and/or other export control regulations

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field OR Bachelor's degree in the same areas plus 2+ years experience in security or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 1+ year(s) experience in one or more of the following: identifying security vulnerabilities, cyber security or related security discipline, or a software engineering-related field

Salary: USD 85,400 - 183,700 per year
