Job summary

• Broad security knowledge with ability to solve difficult problems independently.
• Experience in a small team environment with broad responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical escalation point for security alerts, investigations, and incidents using security telemetry.
• Independently investigate suspicious activity across endpoint, identity, email, network, cloud, and applications; support or lead incident response.
• Develop, test, and tune security detections, correlations, dashboards, and alerting; improve telemetry quality.
• Build scripts, integrations, and automated workflows to improve security analysis, control validation, and remediation.
• Develop, review, and maintain technical security standards, procedures, and architecture documentation.
• Support design, implementation, configuration, and improvement of enterprise security technologies and controls.
• Partner with IT infrastructure and application teams to integrate security into architecture and operations.
• Assess security configurations across hybrid infrastructure, cloud, SaaS, endpoint, server, network, and identity environments.
• Identify processes suitable for automation with appropriate human oversight.

Our client, a leading financial services firm, is seeking a Security Engineer to join their team in Los Angeles, CA!

This is a hands‑on position with significant responsibility and visibility across the organization, reporting directly to the Director of Information Security. The ideal candidate has experience solving complex technical problems, investigating security events, engineering and improving security controls, automating repetitive processes, and partnering directly with infrastructure, application, and business teams. You'll be comfortable independently owning technical initiatives from problem identification and design through implementation, documentation, and ongoing operation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical escalation point for security alerts, investigations, and incidents using security telemetry.
• Independently investigate suspicious activity across endpoint, identity, email, network, cloud, and application environments, and support or lead incident response through containment, remediation, root-cause analysis, and post-incident improvement.
• Develop, test, and tune security detections, correlation logic, searches, dashboards, and alerting, continuously improving telemetry quality, detection coverage, and signal-to-noise ratio.
• Build scripts, integrations, and automated workflows using APIs and scripting tools to improve security analysis, control validation, investigation, enrichment, reporting, and remediation.
• Develop, review, and maintain technical security standards, procedures, architecture documentation, and operating processes.
• Support the design, implementation, configuration, and continuous improvement of enterprise security technologies and controls.
• Partner with IT infrastructure (networking, endpoint, identity, and cloud) and application development teams to integrate security into architecture and operations.
• Assess security configurations and controls across hybrid infrastructure, cloud, SaaS, endpoint, server, network, and identity environments, and identify practical ways to reduce risk.
• Identify processes that can be safely automated while maintaining appropriate human oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience and demonstrated technical capability will be considered.
• 7+ years of information security or closely related infrastructure/security engineering experience, with substantial hands‑on technical responsibility.
• Experience in financial services, investment management, banking, insurance, or another regulated industry.
• Scripting or automation experience with PowerShell, Python, or similar, plus familiarity with APIs, JSON, or other structured data formats.
• Broad security knowledge with the technical depth to independently solve difficult problems.
• Comfort working on a small team where responsibilities are broad and individual contributions have significant impact.
