Position Purpose: All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country.

The Security Operations Educator/Trainer is responsible for the development, delivery, coordination, and documentation of security education, training, and competency programs across KHI facilities. This role serves as the enterprise lead for Workplace Violence Prevention (WPV) training, supporting a safe healthcare environment through standardized, risk-based education aligned with regulatory and organizational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops, manages, and oversees the Security Operations training and competency program in collaboration with the Security Operations Manager.
  • Establishes and maintains standardized, role-based training curricula for Security Officers, nursing, physicians, and other high-risk staff.
  • Ensures all training programs align with Arizona WPV statute (§36-420.03), DNV NIAHO standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, and organizational policies.
  • Leads the enterprise Workplace Violence Prevention (WPV) training program, including orientation, annual education, and refresher/just-in-time training.
  • Ensures WPV training includes recognition of escalating behavior, prevention strategies, de-escalation techniques, response protocols, reporting, and post-incident actions.
  • Designs and implements risk-based mock drills and exercises (e.g., workplace violence, combative patients, behavioral health events, elopement).
  • Conducts or coordinates security training rounds in clinical and non-clinical areas to reinforce real-time learning and situational awareness.
  • Uses incident data, security reports, and risk assessments to prioritize training focus areas and drive program improvements.
  • Develops and delivers department-specific training tailored to role-based risks, including clinical, provider, and frontline staff environments.
  • Ensures Security Officers receive advanced, scenario-based training (de-escalation, patient interaction, situational awareness, use of force as applicable).
  • Develops and maintains competency validation tools, and ensures completion, documentation, and audit readiness of all training, competencies, and certifications.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and provides regular reporting and dashboards to leadership, while leading continuous improvement efforts and serving as a subject matter expert in WPV and security training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent - must provide proof (Diploma or Official Transcripts) upon hire

Certification/Licensure:

  • Possession of a current and valid U.S. motor vehicle license. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must remain eligible to drive, per KHI policy.
  • De-escalation class with 90 days of hire.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire. (American Heart Association or American Red Cross only).
  • Obtain and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Unarmed Security Guard License.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of security operations and workplace violence risks in healthcare environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training materials and competency assessments.
  • Ability to use computer systems and applications for documentation and tracking purposes.
Preferences

Education: College level degree

Experience:

  • Prior experience as a trainer or educator in healthcare security or public safety.
  • Instructor certification in de-escalation, defensive tactics, or workplace violence prevention.
  • Healthcare or hospital environment experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Arizona security officer license.
  • International Association of Healthcare Security Certification and/or Safety as a Certified Healthcare

Security Officer (CHSO)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain per KRMC policy.
  • Completion of FEMA IS 100, 200, 700 and 800.
Special Position Requirements

Exposure Categories:

  • Category II: Expected duties have possible exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
  • Potential for exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances: Asbestos, Formaldehyde, Ethylene oxide, Mercury.
  • Routine exposure to potentially hostile individuals: workplace violence.
Work Requirements
  • Must be able to stand and walk for 60% to 70% of the time; must be able to sit 30% to 40% of the time; must be able to run.
  • Must be able to distinguish phone rings and callers’ voices against regular background noise and conversation.
  • Occasionally bends, stoops, kneels, climbs, and descends ramps, stairs, ladders and reaches in the daily functions of duties.
  • Must be able to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
Authority and Legal Limitations:

The Lead Security Guard operates under Kingman Healthcare Incorporated policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws, including Arizona Revised Statutes Title 32, Chapter 26. Lead Security Guards are not sworn law-enforcement officers and do not possess law-enforcement authority or expanded legal powers by virtue of their assignment. Authority is limited to enforcement of organizational policy, access control on private property, and coordination of law-enforcement response when appropriate. Any use of force, temporary detention, or citizen’s arrest must comply with Arizona law, Arizona Department of Public Safety requirements, and KRMC policy and training. Criminal investigations and arrests remain the responsibility of law-enforcement agencies.
