Responsibilities

  • Maintain alert attention throughout the entire shift.
  • Complete rounds of unit/facility and document location and status of residents.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the unit/facility with residents.
  • Contribute to overall safety of the unit and facility.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings, trainings and in-services.
  • Report signs of resident abuse or neglect.
  • Respect and enforce resident rights and dignity.
  • Maintain high personal and professional standards.
  • Sit at assigned location and supervise the post; arrange coverage during breaks.
  • Sign residents in and out on pass using the Pass Sign-In/Sign-Out Sheet.
  • Search bags and items for contraband.
  • Assist in locating eloped residents and respond to alarms.
  • Provide special observations as requested; fill out required forms.
  • Monitor resident behaviors and report to Behavioral Health staff as needed.
  • Participate in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training and interventions.
  • Perform rounds on behavioral health units and document on the Security Rounds form.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY
  • Responsible for a variety of activities that lend to increasing the security of the residents, staff, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have positive employer references.

  • Must be able to read and write in the English language, utilizing proper spelling and grammar.
  • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be willing to work harmoniously with all personnel.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with facility personnel, residents, family members, visitors, consultants, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
  • Must be able to maintain an appropriately professional manner in intense and/or crisis situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Must be free of physical limitation so as to be able to participate in physical C.P.I. (Crisis Prevention and Intervention) techniques as trained by certified trainer; and be able to assist in the Non-violent Crisis Intervention Team Hold intervention as trained by qualified staff.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the (HIV) AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Maintain alert attention throughout entire shift.
  • Complete rounds of unit/facility as directed, documenting location and status of residents.
  • Uphold and help enforce rules and regulations of unit/facility with residents.
  • Assist in maintaining the overall safety of the specialty unit, and of the facility overall.
  • Complete any required documentation, as trained, in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, continuing education programs and in- services.
  • Report all signs of resident abuse or neglect.
  • Respect and enforce all resident rights.
  • Treat all residents with dignity and respect.
  • Maintain personal and professional high standards of practice.
  • Must sit at assigned location and ensure the post is supervised AT ALL TIMES. Must arrange for another trained staff to fill in during breaks.
  • Sign all residents in and out on pass using the "Pass Sign-In/Sign-Out Sheet." This includes ensuring that only residents who have passes leave the facility, and that those who do not have passes do not leave the facility (as per the "Resident Pass Status" list). Must also ensure that all spaces on the Pass Sign-In/Sign-Out sheet are filled in, and correctly.
  • Search bags and other items brought in facility by residents and visitors for possible contraband items.
  • Assist in seeking out eloped residents from the near-by neighborhood and assisting in returning them to facility. This includes responding to door alarms to retrieve eloping residents.
  • Provide special observation of residents as requested by Clinical Supervisor, DON, Administrator, or designee. This includes filling out the "Special Observation Form" accurately.
  • Monitor residents' behaviors from assigned post. Address any problematic behaviors and/or report to Behavioral Health Staff as appropriate.
  • Will be trained in C.P.I. (Crisis Prevention and Intervention) and will participate in intervening with crisis behaviors/situations. This may include being involved in physical restraint of acting out residents.
  • Perform "rounds" on behavioral health unit when posted on unit, and document accurately on "Security Rounds" form.
  • Other duties as assigned.
