Job summary

University of Texas at Austin seeks a R&D DevSecOps Engineering Scientist to integrate security into the software development lifecycle. You will design secure CI/CD pipelines, enforce Security-as-Code, and enable project teams to adopt DevSecOps practices.

Responsibilities include vulnerability management, incident response, and collaboration with development teams. The role requires DoD 8140 compliant certification within six months, strong communication, and experience across cloud platforms

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer or information science, or other applied sciences.
• 3+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or security engineering roles.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, ArgoCD).
• Experience with CI/CD systems and pipelines.
• Proficiency with at least one major cloud platform.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code methodologies.
• Experience with Linux administration.
• Knowledge of container technologies and container security.
• Familiarity with security scanning and testing methodologies.
• Understanding of security best practices for software development.
• Familiarity with identity and access management principles.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills to explain security concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Strong documentation skills.
• Must hold, or obtain within six months, a DoD 8140 compliant security certification (e.g., Security+).
• Highly organized with attention to detail and sound scientific judgment.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enhance secure CI/CD pipelines with automated build/test/deploy, integrating security gates.
• Implement and maintain security for Infrastructure as Code and cloud environments.
• Perform vulnerability scanning and remediation, automate compliance checks and audit trails.
• Promote secure coding practices and provide security guidance to engineers across projects.
• Participate in security incident response and provide systems administration support as needed.
• Other related functions as assigned.
