Secondary Science Teacher (2026-2027)

Chester County School District – Chester High School, Chester, South Carolina

Overview

Plans and delivers innovative, developmentally appropriate instruction for science students while under limited supervision. Reports to the assigned Principal.

Responsibilities
  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
  • Teach multiple science disciplines as assigned.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment appropriate to student maturity.
  • Prepare lesson plans and related activities for individual students or assigned classes.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum goals and communicate objectives to students.
  • Employ varied instructional techniques and media consistent with available resources.
  • Grade student work and maintain accurate records of test scores and grades.
  • Assess student progress and provide progress reports as required.
  • Report suspected learning or other disabilities to District specialists.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and up‑to‑date records per law and District policy.
  • Assist the school administration in implementing policies, developing classroom rules, and maintaining classroom order.
  • Monitor student behavior to ensure safety and well‑being.
  • Assist students requiring special attention.
  • Supervise teaching assistants and/or volunteers.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents, schedule and conduct parent‑teacher conferences, facilitate parent‑education workshops, and conduct home visits as necessary.
  • Maintain classroom supplies inventory and submit requisitions.
  • Coordinate and participate in special programs, projects, or events; serve as adviser to student organizations, staff, and committees.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.
  • Participate in in‑service training and continuing education.
  • Arrange substitute instructors as needed.
  • Operate relevant teaching and office equipment.
Additional Duties
  • Provide remedial assistance to individuals, small groups, or entire classes as scheduled.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly classroom.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Valid South Carolina teaching certificate or eligibility in the appropriate certified area.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and basic office equipment.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize instructional activities.
Physical Requirements

Ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, including prolonged standing and moderate lifting (12–20 pounds).

Required Testing / Certifications

Valid teaching certificate in the content/grade area.

Background check: TB and Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
