Job description

The Criminal Justice Instructor will provide instruction for students enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at Crowder College. Courses may include topics such as introduction to criminal justice, policing, criminal law, corrections, ethics, and related public safety subjects. The instructor will collaborate with faculty, administration, and local law enforcement and public safety agencies to ensure curriculum relevance and provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into the criminal justice system.

Some of the duties listed below will vary depending on the need(s) of the college. Priorities Include:

• Provide instruction in criminal justice courses in accordance with approved curriculum and institutional standards.
• Prepare course materials, lectures, assignments, and assessments that promote student engagement and learning.
• Maintain instructional quality through effective teaching strategies, current industry knowledge, and appropriate use of technology.
• Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies, courts, corrections departments, and other public safety organizations to maintain strong industry connections.
• Assist with student recruitment, retention, and advising.
• Maintain accurate student records including grades, attendance, and required reports.
• Participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and committees as needed.
• Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of criminal justice practices and instructional methodologies.
• Perform other assigned duties and tasks appropriate for the position.

Education and Experience

• Relevant professional law enforcement experience (minimum of 3 years), including current or prior Missouri POST certification as a peace officer, or the ability to obtain and maintain appropriate law enforcement certification/commission is required.
• A college degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field is preferred
• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level is preferred
• Experience working in multiple sectors of the criminal justice system is preferred
• Experience developing curriculum or training programs is preferred
• Experience working with diverse student populations is preferred
• Valid driver’s license is required.

• Generally, works indoors in a standard office environment.
• Normal working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work may be required.
• Travel to other instructional sites occasionally required.
