Full Time (1.0 FTE)

The Second Language Instructional Facilitator position will support all aspects of language andinstructional services specifically designed for English Learner students, as well asprovide support to staff working with English Learner students. This position will support multiple D300 schools.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide coaching support to all teachers working with English Learners K-12throughout the district
  • Facilitate meetings with ESL instructional assistants and teachers
  • Collaborate in assessing the level of services to be provided to each EnglishLearner (EL) based on their proficiency levels
  • Assist and guide teachers supporting EL students with planning, sequencing, andscaffolding of instruction
  • Train and support teachers in administration of required language proficiencyand academic achievement tests
  • Provide coaching support for teachers to implement a variety of language andinstructional techniques based on curricular frameworks and student need
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, districtpolicy, administrative guidelines or specific program requirements.
  • Support classroom teachers, regularly, in examining student work andmonitoring student progress
  • Conduct and/or participate in parent conferences and telephone conferences
  • Promote, monitor and maintain integrity of the Dual Language Program andTransitional Program of Instruction
  • Provide individualized, classroom-based support including modeling of lessonsand best teaching practices for supporting EL students, based on curriculumframeworks
  • Develop and implement professional development opportunities for teachers andstaff to support the integration of English Learner strategies and methodologiesin the classroom
  • Help locate, recommend, and promote district-approved materials to improvelanguage acquisition
  • Consult frequently with classroom teaches on matters relating to English Learnerinstruction.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as needed for the position
  • Orient beginning teachers and support staff as to philosophy, procedures, andmaterials for the district EL programs.
  • Plan and conduct parent trainings and provide information to support languageacquisition, biliteracy and biculturalism
  • Help teachers identify language strengths and weaknesses of students whilematching the skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
  • Work in concert with curriculum teams to review such topics as materialselection, vocabulary development, concept development, supplementarymaterials and the development of study skills to support EL students
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities, as may beassigned by the Director of EL and World Languages
Qualifications
  • Bilingual certification required (Spanish)
  • Minimum of three successful years of teaching experience with English Learnerstudents
  • Ability to get to certified to administer the WIDA Screener and ACCESSassessments
  • Knowledge of Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) instructional strategies
  • Knowledge of English as a Second Language (ESL) instructional strategies
  • Knowledge of the WIDA language standards and levels of language proficiency
  • Knowledge of all aspects of dual language programming including, but notlimited to language allocation, biliteracy unit frameworks, bridging,metalinguistic focus and extension
  • Knowledge of effective teaching strategies for EL students to increase languageacquisition
  • Skill in collecting, interpreting, and communicating data to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Possess excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work closely with other staff members
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written in English and Spanish)
