Job summary

Glacier Fish Company seeks an experienced Oiler/Wiper to join our onboard engineering team. The role involves operating and maintaining vessel propulsion and auxiliary systems, performing rounds, and keeping accurate logs while living in a tight crew environment.

You will work 12-13 hour days, 7 days a week during fishing seasons, with pay ranging from $103,000 to $125,000 per year plus crew shares. OSHA safety compliance and teamwork are essential in this hands-on position.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years as an Oiler/Wiper or 3rd Assistant preferred.
  • Work 12-13 hrs/day, 7 days/week in all weather conditions.
  • Repetitively lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Self-motivated team-player.
  • Understand instructions and safety rules in English.
  • Must provide 2 recent positive references.
  • Able to climb and descend steep stairs and ladders.
  • Share spaces with crew in close quarters.

Responsibilities

  • Familiar with vessel equipment and systems, recognize normal operations.
  • Performs scheduled rounds, filling out and maintaining engine room log book, oil record book, sewage discharge and EPA logs
  • Bunkers fuel, lube and waste oil, includes transfers on vessel, maintenance of correct tank levels and logs.
  • Monitors and performs scheduled maintenance per operational hours or timed intervals on engine room equipment, performing daily check list of equipment and routine cleaning
  • Maintains proper oil and water levels and manages filtration in all propulsion equipment; main engines, reduction gears, PTO gears, servo system, bow thruster engine and gear.
  • Monitors and maintains correct water treatment dosing for Engines and boiler.
  • Ensures proper maintenance and greasing of vessel steering system, hydraulic power pack, rudders, rams, bearings and blocks.
  • Maintains oil levels, manages filtration and performs scheduled services on all vessel auxiliary equipment; air compressors, auxiliary generator engines, hydraulic systems.
  • Operates and maintains lube and fuel oil purifiers.
  • Operates and maintains main refrigeration plant.
  • Operates and maintains auxiliary refrigeration plants, RFW, Glycol, Ships service and Electronics room AC.
  • Performs and logs scheduled leak checks on all refrigeration equipment.
  • Operates and maintains all sewage and grey water equipment, all HVAC plant and filtration equipment.
  • Maintains all non-factory Electrical motor and generator bearings.
  • Overview of maintenance and greasing of all LP deck machinery and pneumatics excluding control system
  • Overview of maintenance and managing oil levels and filtration of deck cranes
  • Overview of maintenance and managing all vessel HP hydraulic equipment, all pump units and filtration, all deck machinery. Excluding factory motors and actuators
  • Maintains Ships skiff and davit system in safe operating condition.
  • Operates and maintains vessel RO water makers and filtration, manages Freshwater production and chlorine dosing
  • Ability to fabricate and basic machining operations
  • Ability to recognize potential issues outside realm of responsibility and communicate up chain of command.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of Production plant equipment and product flow, ability to assist Factory Engineers in effective repairs of all production plant equipment
  • Maintains organized and clean engineering spaces as direct by 1st Engineer or Chief Engineer.
  • Maintains vessel hand tool inventory and ensures all tools are returned in good order.
  • Respectful communication with all vessel crew
  • Knowledge and understanding of company safety manual and procedures to include proper PPE, SDS structure and Vessel Lock out/Tags Plus procedures
