Job summary

Strand Book Store is seeking a Seasonal Warehouse Associate for our Sunset Park, Brooklyn warehouse. The role supports receiving, picking, labeling, and packing for Strand locations with a focus on accuracy and inventory integrity.

This temporary full-time position runs 40 hours weekly, with a schedule from 6:15 AM to 2:45 PM and Sunday availability required. End date is planned for January 3, 2027, with open holiday period coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of warehouse experience is preferred.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 25-50 lb carts and boxes daily.
• Must complete tasks with speed, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to lift items or merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable standing for long periods of time.
• Sunday availability and weekend flexibility are required.
• Proven success with computers and data entry.

Responsibilities

• Picking and transferring stock for daily replenishment to each store.
• Unloading and sorting shipments in a timely manner.
• Accurately receiving, tagging and sorting items into warehouse stock.
• Loading and unloading daily replenishment on/off the truck.
• Verifying invoices match items received.
• Building subscription boxes both quarterly and monthly.

Job Type: Temporary Full Time, Non-Exempt Non-Bargaining Unit

Reports to: Warehouse Director & Warehouse Managers

Schedule: 6:15AM-2:45PM, 40 hours per week, weekend availability will be required as the warehouse is currently open on Sundays.

Location: Strand’s warehouse is located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, accessible via the N or R trains.

End Date: While it is subject to change, the current scheduled end date for this year's seasonal staff is Sunday, January 3, 2027.

Strand Bookstore’s Brooklyn warehouse is the lifeblood of our business. It’s where everything begins. Warehouse Associates ensure the proper picking, labeling and packing of books and merchandise for all Strand locations. They not only unload and unpack items but also receive them into our inventory. Acute attention to detail is critical in this role as warehouse associates are responsible for the integrity of our inventory.

Holiday Season Note: For this position, we are in search of folks who can provide much needed support in the weeks leading up to the holidays, when our traffic grows exponentially. While Strand Bookstore is closed on both Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, we are open the days surrounding both holidays and will need all seasonal staff to be available during their regularly scheduled shifts.

• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 25-50 lb carts and boxes on a daily basis.
• Must be able to complete tasks with speed, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Ability to lift items or merchandise weighing up to and between 10-50 lbs.
• Comfortable standing for long periods of time.
• Can be trusted to work independently while also maintaining a sense of urgency and concentration as needed.
• Proven success with computers and data entry.
• Available to work 40 hours per week.
• Sunday availability and general weekend flexibility are a requirement for this position.
