Job summary

The Indiana Department Of Transportation (INDOT) is seeking a seasonal custodial/maintenance helper at the Elkhart Sub-District. You will perform cleaning, restocking, and routine facilities maintenance to support district operations.

The position pays an hourly rate of $16.24. Responsibilities include transporting vehicles and parts, inventory handling, and assisting mechanics while maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
• Performs routine facilities maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, painting, and checking fluid levels.
• Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
• Delivers vehicles, parts, and equipment to various district locations.
• Receives, stocks, and organizes inventory.
• Assists mechanics and other staff in routine maintenance and inventory procedures.
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
• Performs basic lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and minor landscaping.

Role Overview

This position will provide assistance in the Mechanics Repair Shop to include data entry, repair scheduling, vehicle delivery, vehicle cleaning, building cleaning and assisting in parts retrieval from vendors or other INDOT locations along with other various tasks as required.

This position is located in INDOT's Elkhart Sub-District.

Pay Rate

This position pays an hourly rate of $16.24.

A Day In The Life

• Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
• Performs routine facilities maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, painting, and checking fluid levels.
• Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
• Delivers vehicles, parts, and equipment to various district locations.
• Receives, stocks, and organizes inventory.
• Assists mechanics and other staff in routine maintenance and inventory procedures.
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
• Performs basic lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and minor landscaping.
• May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and inventory and may answer basic questions.
• May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
• May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Benefits Of Employment With The State Of Indiana

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
