Job summary

Alsum Farms & Produce is seeking 10–12 Production Packers for the second shift during the September–December harvest season. Join a team dedicated to delivering quality fresh produce. Seasonal positions may lead to permanent employment.

You will work on packing and preparation of potatoes, with opportunities to gain valuable experience and potentially transition to a permanent role. Safety and teamwork are emphasized throughout.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Repacking potatoes: stack bags/boxes correctly, weigh and palletize items.
• Clean-up around machinery and production area.
• Unload and handle potatoes per safety guidelines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What Does a Production Packer Do?

As a Production Packer, you will play an important role in preparing our fresh produce for our customers. Responsibilities include:

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Repacking potatoes:

• Learn stacking patterns in order to correctly stack bags and boxes of potatoes
• Stack 50-pound boxes correctly and neatly on a pallet
• Stack 50-pound bales correctly and neatly on a pallet
• Stack 5-pound, 8-pound, 10-pound, 15-pound, and 20-pound bags in bins correctly and neatly
• Set up pallets and bins throughout the day as needed to keep the packaging process running efficiently
• Wrap bins with plastic wrap or netting when necessary
• Weigh potatoes to make sure the bags and boxes weigh the correct amount

Clean-Up

• Clean up around the machine you’re working on that day
• Pick up good produce and put it into the production cycle on an ongoing basis throughout the day
• Pick up garbage and dispose of properly
• Clean items on Master Sanitation Schedule as required

Miscellaneous

• Unload rail cars and trailers as necessary
• Dump 100-pound bags of potatoes into holding bin
• Clean out potato bins
• Tear open returned bags of potatoes and dump them into bins
• Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Positive attitude
• Willingness to learn
• Self-motivated and able to function as part of a team
• Ability to utilize Human Resource Information System (HRIS) software

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

• Must be agile to climb stationary ladders and into potato bins
• Various repetitive movements and good manual dexterity to perform required tasks
• Exposure to airborne particles or fumes
• Must be able to lift. Move, and carry 50-pound boxes and 100-pound bags of potatoes
• Must wear safety glasses and hearing protection in designated areas
